Letter from the Chair
Michelle Sutton, Chairperson

We are having a busy summer at the MAAIC!

Our Car Show was a great success! The weather was beautiful and so were the one hundred and sixteen cars, trucks and motorcycles that came through our gate that day. Our beautiful center was overwhelmed with positive support and new visitors to our museum and everyone had a great time. It was a day spent with good food, beautiful sights, and wonderful people. Mark your calendar for May 3rd, 2015 when we do it again.

Tours are moving through the museum and encampment, and it is so much fun interacting with the kids! If you have not been through the museum in a while, please come in and see the brand new Indians in Aviation exhibit. Deborah and many elders from our community have created an outstanding project that brings this untold story in Indian and Wichita history to life. We are also working hard to prepare for the upcoming American Indian Festival (AIF) at Century II Expo Hall, July 12th-13th. I am so excited to see so many volunteers already signed up, and I can't wait for the preview party! If you haven't been to the preview party in the past years, treat yourself! It is a great way to see our featured artist and vendors first, before the doors open to the public. You can contact April Scott at (316) 350-3340 or any board member for your ticket(s).

I am getting more excited as July gets closer. I can't wait to see all of the dancers at the grand entry, to hear the drum, and to see all of the happy faces. I am looking forward to all of those new and familiar vendors, all of that good food, and having fun with our public! This event is so good for the MAAIC because we get to show all who attend our current presence in a modern relevant way. We also gather to celebrate and to enjoy our diverse cultures together. We get to have a lot of fun while we promote our mission to serve as a cultural center and museum dedicated to educating people about and preserving the heritage of the American Indian. Please tell everyone you know to come and enjoy the festival with us. This experience is like no other!
See you there!

Wado Anela!

 Museum News

On May 9th we celebrated the largest community exhibit the museum has ever produced, "Indians in Aviation". For those of you who haven't seen the exhibit  it tells the story of the Indian people who migrated to Wichita during World War II to build planes for the war effort and ultimately come together to build the MAAIC.This past year has been an incredible journey for the museum team, bringing together old friends and new partners from throughout Wichita and surrounding areas to turn this story into the amazing new exhibit now in the museum.

Through our museum partner, World War II History Center in El Dorado, the exhibit also includes WWII memorabilia on temporary loan through Veterans Day. We had standing room only to view the movie on both the private and public opening. The night of the member's private reception was made even better by the World War II Re-enactor Corps who helped bring history for life to visitors and Brandon Buffalohead who came to share his music with our members.

Thank you to all of the community who participated in the movie, sharing stories, pictures and music with us. A big thanks to Wichita Aero Club and the Arts Council whose financial support made it possible create this exhibit and share this story of Wichita's Indian Community with visitors in our museum. Those of you who missed this amazing film please join us for family day, Saturday, June 28th at 10am for another free showing. Be there at opening to ensure you get a good seat!
