The second half of CityArts' Summer Session is here! Don't let summer pass you by without taking an art class at CityArts. 
 
Now is the perfect time to find a new hobby, meet interesting people and have an overall good time! There are also plenty of classes and weeklong ArtCore camps for youth ages 6-16 that encourage them to use their imaginations and put their brains to work.

PHOTOGRAPHY 

DSLR CAMERA BASICS: LEVEL 1
This introductory level class will give you a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the camera (single point/focus modes, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure) as well as a basic knowledge of photography through classroom lecture, discussion, simple hands-on exercises and homework. Age: Teen/Adult Prerequisite: None. Class designed for students who know little or nothing about their DSLR camera. Equipment/Supplies: Personal DSLR camera and related manual. The student is advised to review manual before attending first class. Optional materials fee - $25 first night of class.

DSLR CAMERA BASICS: LEVEL 3 - NEW
Become a master of DSLR photography in this advanced and highly interactive class. We'll explore the aspects of lenses, filters, external flash units, controlling natural light, reflectors, close-up photography, action/sports shooting and low light and night shooting, which includes photographing
the moon correctly. Some activities will take place outside normal class schedule. Age 16+ Prerequisite: Level 1 and 2 of DSLR classes or permission of the class instructor.
Equipment/Supplies: Personal DSLR Camera and related DSLR manual, media cards, batteries and any accessories that you own such as tripod. We will discuss how to buy a good tripod in class. Optional materials fee - $25 first night of class.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
The first assignment in this class is planning and preparing for a landscape shoot, including knowing the gear you will want to carry. Next, we will move into the critical topics of composition, lighting and exposure for photographing landscapes. Post processing and editing will also be discussed. This four-week course requires that you get out and take a photo on assignment
and submit it to be discussed in the next class. You may use any camera for this course. The principals discussed in class will be based upon the best practices for landscape photography.

DIGITAL DARKROOM - BEGINNER'S LIGHTROOM - NEW
Go deeper into Adobe Lightroom's develop module to sharpen your photo management, sorting and editing skills. Currently using Lightroom Version 5.2. Age 16+ Prerequisite: "Digital Darkroom - Beginner's Lightroom" or permission of the class instructor.

PHOTOSHOP BASICS
Using Adobe Photoshop you will learn all of the basic tools that will be used in everyday editing. These topics are taught with an emphasis on Photography, but many are useful for all types of graphical editing and illustrating. This course is taught in our Digital Arts Studio and each student
will have a computer available for a genuine hands-on learning experience. It is recommended that you come prepared to take notes, too. Age 16+

POINT-AND-SHOOT /BRIDGE CAMERA PHOTOGRAPHY
This class is designed to get you up and running with your point-and-shoot digital camera and bridge camera. The first step is taking everything out of the box and talking about it. You will have two opportunities to shoot photos and submit them for review. Age 16+

KILN WORK: GLASS FUSING
Using System 96 glass, you will have the option to design jewelry and tiles or fuse and slump dishes, plates, wind chimes and other items. You will receive information on fusible glass, design, use of color, mold prep, fusing and slumping and more. Handouts included. Bring glass to the first

ART FOR THE HOMESCHOOLER
You and other home-school students will experience the elements and principles of art through one-on-one instruction in this multimedia class. You will work in a variety of mediums including clay, metal, glass, painting, drawing and more! Ages 6+

YOUTH SCULPTURE
Decorate your room with your own signature art. The class will focus on exploring basic principles of three-dimensional art through a variety of mediums such as clay, wire, foamcore, paper mache and a conglomeration of recycled materials. A different material will be explored each week, with the last week focusing on combining all of the materials and techniques into one piece. Ages 6+

YOUTH PAINTING
The world is your canvas, and we want to help you focus your artistic talents on different methods, mediums and techniques of painting. You and the other students will get a well-rounded experience working with different types of paint on different surfaces while depicting subject matter that pushes individual boundaries as artists. Potential projects include: suminagashi, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, large-scale art and animal art. Age 6+

ARTCORE CAMPS
CityArts' ArtCore camps give youth ages 6-16 a core knowledge about art as they make new friends and have the summer of a lifetime! While each camp focuses on a specific artistic theme, time is set aside to dabble in a variety of other artistic elements and mediums.  
  • Many camps include a field trip on a River City Trolley to a museum or attraction.
  • Early drop off 7:30a-9:00a / Late pick up 4:00p-5:30pm (MAIN ENTRANCE ONLY)
  • Students staying for the whole day will need to bring a sack lunch.   
ARTCORE: PAINTING
Field Trip: Tanganika Wildlife Park
At Tanganika, our campers will use watercolors and pencils to realistically paint the animals they see! All week long, they will learn to mix color and use all different types of paint.

Field Trip: Jack Smith Shoe Repair and Tandy Leather
We will go behind-the-scenes on leather production and learn about the evolution of leather work. Leather crafting to make wallets, bracelets, jewelry, masks and more are part of this fun-filled week.

  • In the event of CityArts having to cancel a class due to low enrollment, you will be notified prior to its start date. You may choose to transfer to another class or receive a full refund.
  • If you wish to withdraw from a class, you must notify CityArts 48 hours before the start date of the class to receive a refund or transfer to another class.
