This introductory level class will give you a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the camera (single point/focus modes, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure) as well as a basic knowledge of photography through classroom lecture, discussion, simple hands-on exercises and homework. DSLR CAMERA BASICS: LEVEL 3 - NEW
Become a master of DSLR photography in this advanced and highly interactive class. We'll explore the aspects of lenses, filters, external flash units, controlling natural light, reflectors, close-up photography, action/sports shooting and low light and night shooting, which includes photographing
the moon correctly. Some activities will take place outside normal class schedule. Age 16+ Prerequisite: Level 1 and 2 of DSLR classes or permission of the class instructor.
Equipment/Supplies: Personal DSLR Camera and related DSLR manual, media cards, batteries and any accessories that you own such as tripod. We will discuss how to buy a good tripod in class. Optional materials fee - $25 first night of class.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
The first assignment in this class is planning and preparing for a landscape shoot, including knowing the gear you will want to carry. Next, we will move into the critical topics of composition, lighting and exposure for photographing landscapes. Post processing and editing will also be discussed. This four-week course requires that you get out and take a photo on assignment
and submit it to be discussed in the next class. You may use any camera for this course. The principals discussed in class will be based upon the best practices for landscape photography.

DIGITAL DARKROOM - BEGINNER'S LIGHTROOM

PEN, BRUSH AND INK WITH WATERCOLOR AND PASTEL
Explore the possibilities of using pen and ink in conjunction with watercolor and soft pastels. This is a traditional mixed media approach. You will be presented with examples of works by different artists of the Western and Eastern tradition as well as a demonstration of the media at the beginning of each class period. By the end of the course, you will have a firm understanding of this method of drawing. Age 10+

DRAWING IN PEN & INK
This course covers the use of lines, stippling (dots) and the use of solid blacks. You will have the opportunity to take a literal drawing and transform it into an illustration to emphasize highlighting, shadow, shape, etc. Time will be set aside to examine illustrations in fine and commercial

  • In the event of CityArts having to cancel a class due to low enrollment, you will be notified prior to its start date. You may choose to transfer to another class or receive a full refund.
  • If you wish to withdraw from a class, you must notify CityArts 48 hours before the start date of the class to receive a refund or transfer to another class.
