Cowtown is kicking off its spring/summer season with
Civil War Day
10 a.m-5 p.m.
this Saturday, April 26

Civil War Day gives adults and children a glimpse into the daily lives of Union and Confederate soldiers and their families during this pivotal time in U.S. history.

Civil War Day is an annual event that immerses visitors in the time period through realistic soldier campsites, medical units, battles (11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the farm field) and the sounds of cannon and rifle fire around every corner. (Click on this link to our Facebook page for the complete schedule of events.)

The authenticity of Civil War Day is made possible by Civil War reenactment groups that include:

Union
Confederate
New additions to the one-day event include presentations by guest lecturers.
  • Marla Matkin, an independent scholar and performer from Hill City, Kan., will speak about "Victorian Fun and Frivolity," 12:30 p.m. at the Depot Platform.
  • Cynthia Naughton, who works as a hairstylist/make-up artist for Kansas history films produced by Hutchinson-based Lone Chimney Films, will discuss "Ladies Hairstyles of the Period," throughout the day in Murdock House.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to Cowtown this Saturday!

Historic Wichita Cowtown Inc., and the City of Wichita appreciate your continued support of Cowtown, one of the oldest living-history museums in the Midwest and an invaluable asset to Wichita.

Cowtown has the distinction of being accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Accreditation recognizes high standards in museums and ensures they continue to uphold the highest museum standards and public trust. Only 4 percent of the nation's estimated 17,500 museums are accredited.

Cowtown's strong reputation drives a large cross-section of the community to seek out its unique programming that chronicles Wichita's 1865-1880 transformation from a frontier settlement to a cattle town to a burgeoning agricultural and manufacturing area. More than 6,000 schoolchildren and 16,000 visitors from all 50 states and many foreign countries experience Cowtown each year.

With special events, concerts and 54 historic and re-created buildings on 23 acres off the Chisholm Trail, one visit to Cowtown is simply not enough. We invite you and your family to enjoy the benefits of membership today.
