ISEF CELEBRATES 37 YEARS

More than 250 guests packed the room at New York's Hilton Hotel on Wednesday, May 7, to celebrate ISEF's 37th anniversary.

This year's event honored three of ISEF's International Fellows who've completed their studies: Dr. Yafit Lev-Aretz (Law, UPenn), who just received her Ph.D.; Dr. Haim Suchowski (UC Berkeley) who's joining the faculty at Tel Aviv University; and Dr. Eitan Yaakobi (CalTech), who's now on the faculty at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. All three gave touching tributes, thanking everyone for helping them overcome great obstacles and fulfill their life's dreams.

Guests also heard from Dr. Vered Padler-Karavani , an alumna of ISEF from BA through postdoc who is now a professor with her own lab at Tel Aviv University. Winner of the Marie Curie Grant for her breakthroughs in cancer treatment, Vered is a shining example of ISEF's global impact.

The dynamic Rebecca Jarvis of ABC News emceed the event, while our own Jack Gindi led a wonderfully successful live auction.

ISEF INTERNATIONAL FELLOWS SEMINAR

On Tuesday, May 6th, our International Fellows attended their annual seminar in New York, where they also met with members of ISEF's board and Student Affairs Committee.

Dr. Darel M. Benaim, Chair of the Student Affairs Committee, welcomed the fellows to the day-long seminar, which focused on the unique issues many of them face as Israeli scholars on foreign campuses, including the challenges of raising young children while pursuing advanced research far from home and family. The seminar also included a special workshop with communications expert Amy Goldberg.

Israel's Technion Applauds ISEF

Israel's famed university, the Technion, featured a special article on ISEF alumni, including two of the Technion's newest faculty members, Dr. Shenhav Cohen and Dr. Eitan Yaakobi.

"Fulfilling a Dream"

highlights the individual achievements of ISEF's scholars, and ISEF's impact at the national level--opening the doors of opportunity for immigrant and marginalized young Israelis.
