Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week, grades K through 7 were visited by the LaGrange Public Library.  Students learned ways to kick start their summer reading.  We celebrated our 8th graders and their achievements at the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday.  Our FSA has been working hard to plan our end of year Picnic Day.  Spoiler alert; there may be reptiles!  Thanks to those who turned in their hot dog orders/permission forms.

Today, we clapped out our 8th graders for the last time before they embark on their high school journey.  We look forward to our graduation ceremony tonight as well as the many end of year celebrations in the classrooms!  Don't forget to mark your calendars to join us at our end of year Mass to celebrate our students and teachers on June 3 at 9:00 a.m.

It's always a great day to be a Cardinal!
Blessings,

Lauren Lewandowski

Teacher Spotlights

Educational background: Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education Summa Cum Laude from DePaul University and later worked on a Master's Degree in Reading and Learning Disabilities. Attends numerous educational seminars and workshops.
Number of years as a Cardinal: 22 great ones!
Teaching motto: Every child is special; each can learn and it is my job to make sure that happens.
Favorite St. Cletus memory: I always remember the excitement and awe each child has when our chickens hatch.
Advice to students: Always believe in yourself and think "What Would Jesus Do?" before you act.

Erich Kittlaus
Educational background: B.A. in Secondary Education/History from Concordia University Chicago; M.A. in European History from American Public University
Number of years as a Cardinal: 4
Teaching motto: "Teach the children so it will not be necessary to teach the adults."  -Abraham Lincoln
Favorite St. Cletus memory: I have so many fond memories of my time at St. Cletus. One of the moments that I will always remember was at the end of the year Mass a few years ago. Father Bob was asking the students what they had learned that year. A student in my home room raised his hand and said that he had learned about the American Civil War. Father Bob jokingly said "and who won the Civil War," to which the student replied "nobody." After seeing the somewhat surprised look on Father Bob's face, the student went on to elaborate that no one was a winner in the American Civil War, because every person that died was an American, and the thing that they were fighting over was whether they should treat people like, well, people. Those words were his own, and it was a moment that made me feel like I had accomplished something.
Advice to students: Abraham Lincoln once said "whatever you are, be a good one."  The best advice that I can pass on to any student is to embrace the things that they are passionate about. I am very passionate about history, the Chicago Cubs, and especially about my chosen profession as an educator. While obviously I don't expect any student to share the exact same passions as I do, the best thing that I can hope for any one of my students is to find the things that you love, and to do them as best as you can.
