October 22, 2014

Dear Parents,

November is Manna Month.  If you haven't done so already, take advantage of this wonderful program, which benefits you and St. Cletus!  Check out your family envelope this week for information about how to take advantage of this program.

The good wishes for winning the Blue Ribbon continue to pour in!  We have heard from Cardinal George, Governor Quinn, and Notre Dame, to name a few!  We are so proud of this accomplishment and thrilled that others have recognized our efforts.  Check out this week's "New World"--there is a nice article about the Blue Ribbon recipients.

Don't forget if you have time to come check out one of our many games here at Morrissey Hall!  I enjoyed cheering on the volleyball teams and am looking forward to basketball.

We look forward to seeing you at Mass!

Sincerely,

Margaret Hayes

Principal

Picture Retake Day: Tuesday, November 4

School pictures were sent home to all students with orders submitted.  (If you ordered a class photo only, these composites will not be ready and distributed until several weeks after our Picture Retake Day.)

If your child(ren) missed Picture Day on September 16, or if you would like a retake photo, please do the following: (1) e-mail Mary Lee Krieger or call (708) 352-4820; and (2) return your unwanted photos (required), including your reason for the retake, to the school office no later than Monday, November 3.

Retake students who have gym class should bring their gym uniforms to school to change into after their photo is taken.  Students who do not have gym class may remain in their photo attire or bring their school uniforms to change into after their photo is taken.

Calling All Veterans!

We would like to invite any veterans who are relatives of St. Cletus students to participate in our Veterans Day Mass on Tuesday, November 11. They will be invited to be part of the processional into Mass with their student and to sit with them for the duration.  If you or someone you know would like to take part, please e-mail Mr. Kittlaus so that we have an idea of how many to expect.

Halloween, Pre-K through 8th Grades

Halloween is always a time for great fun.  For the past few years, all of us at St. Cletus have been dressing up for Halloween in a fun costume.  This year, we will celebrate at the school on Friday, October 31, with parties and costumes.  Students should come dressed for the morning in your costumes, ensuring to adhere to the guidelines listed below.  Class dismissal on the 31st will be at 11:30 a.m.

  • Pre-school students: Please follow the guidelines and information that will be sent home by your pre-school teachers.
  • Costumes must be comfortable for wearing in the classroom--learning continues throughout the day.
  • Leave all props at home: wands, gloves, brooms, whistles, etc.
  • No masks, please--they can block vision.  Try make-up instead.  Remember, the children will be wearing this make-up all day.
  • Wear comfortable shoes--gym shoes are preferred.  We will still have gym class and recess.
  • Costumes must be school appropriate--NO violent or gory costumes, such as Freddy, Jason, etc.  However, skeletons, witches, Dracula, etc. are fine.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  This should be a "spooky day" for all.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Recycling at St. Cletus

We are happy to report that we are taking recycling at St. Cletus School to a new level!  We will now begin recycling our lunch waste, which includes empty milk cartons, some hot lunch containers, and other recyclable materials. Your children will watch a video explaining what is recyclable.

We will also be starting an Ecology Club, which will be open to students in 5th-8th grades. The club will meet 4-5- times per year during lunch/recess. Students in the club will help the school's effort to recycle and to make everyone more environmentally aware of how our actions affect our beautiful Earth.

Please see our Flyer for more information and/or to register.
