Erin Potts Invitational Volleyball Tournament

We're gearing up to host this fifth annual event, held in Morrissey Hall from Friday, February 7, through Sunday, February 9. Local 7th and 8th grade teams will compete in this action-packed community effort that, again, promises loads of fun as athletes and families support an important cause--cancer awareness.

Hello to all the new St. Cletus families--my name is Mary Potts, and I am a former St. Cletus School Athletic Director, volleyball coach, and school office secretary. My husband, Dave and I, have been members of St. Cletus for over thirty years (I'm a graduate), and our four children attended the school.

This annual tournament, which began in February 2010, is held in memory of our youngest daughter, Erin, a 2005 graduate. Erin began playing competitive volleyball at the age of nine and continued to play for St. Cletus, LTHS and Lions/1st Alliance Volleyball Club. She was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer at the age of fifteen and passed away at age eighteen on December 18, 2009. Monies from past tournaments have been directed to organizations that both fund cancer research and support patients currently undergoing treatment for the disease.

This year, we're excited to announce "Scatter Kindness," a fund created in memory of Erin through the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Foundation. Going forward, proceeds from the tournament each year, as well as personal donations, will directly support cancer patients at the Adventist Cancer Institute through Patient Experience Programs. For more information about the fund, please visit my blog at Mary's Blog.

To those of you who've been walking this road with us--thank you for your ongoing support in memory of our sweet Erin. To the new families--we can't wait to meet you!

Mary and Dave Potts, Chris, Sarah, and Matthew
