December 4, 2013

Dear School Parent,

Happy Advent!  What a wonderful time of year this is as we anticipate the birth of our Lord.  Three weeks from today is Christmas, and you can feel the excitement throughout the school.  Students and teachers alike are preparing for Christ's birth in class and at Mass.  We have many activities here to celebrate the season, including our Christmas Program for 1st-4th grades, Band Concert, and Preschool Christmas Program.  I look forward to seeing you at these events.  Don't forget, the best way to celebrate Advent is by attending one of our many weekend Masses.

A great big thank you is extended to the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for the beautiful Christmas trees outside Morrissey Hall!  What a way to get in the Spirit of Christmas!

Sincerely,

Margaret M. Hayes

Principal

2014 Spring Auction Grandparent Letter

Grandparents rock!  Once again, we'd like to ask Cletus parents for your support with this initiative.  Your student will bring home a form this week for you to enter grandparents' names and addresses along with additional information.  This initiative is completely optional. Regardless of the donation amount, every contribution is valuable and helps us achieve our fundraising goal for 2014. And it allows grandparents to better understand why it's a great day to be a Cardinal!

eScrip Program Cancellation
As you may know, Safeway announced in October its decision to sell or close its Dominick's stores. While many stores remain open, some have already transitioned or are in the process of transitioning to other retailers. As a result, they have made the decision to end the Dominick's eScrip program on November 30, 2013.  St. Cletus School would like to thank you for your participation in the program.

My Coke Rewards for Schools
Support a good cause--remember at the holidays to save your Coca Cola product caps and send them to the school office to earn new items for physical education equipment!

Box Tops for Education
For a list of participating products, please click here: Box Tops for Education

Labels for Education
Thank you to everyone who is sending in their Labels for Education.  Please continue to bring in labels from home, as we cannot have a successful program if everyone does not participate.  With the holidays coming up, we are hoping to double our participation during this time.
Labels for Education is a different program than Box Tops.  You can find the Labels for Education points near the UPC (bar code) on participating products. Please check your cans and boxes for the Labels for Education symbol before recycling.  The most common product brands are Campbell's, Post, Pepperidge Farm, Prego, Dannon, and V8.  For a full list, please visit Labels for Education.

PARISH/COMMUNITY EVENTS
St. Cletus Parish Giving Tree

Help!  Less than one week remains before December 8, when Giving Tree gifts are due back!  Purple tags still remain.  Each tag represents a real person or family in our community. Please fill one of the remaining requests to help make Christmas more hopeful for someone who is struggling. If you have already taken a tag or two, consider taking just one more. Remember that the requests listed on the tags are part of a "wish list." You need not purchase every item, but use it as a guideline for a thoughtful gift.

There are also red food basket tags still available on the tree. Each of these tags also represents a real family in need of food assistance. Consult the inside of the tags for instructions for returning gifts to Church on the weekend of December 7-8, and food baskets to Morrissey Hall on Sunday, December 15.

Questions?  Contact Mary Beth at (708) 215-5418 or Maureen at (708) 839-0345.

Letter from the St. Cletus Women's Club

Throughout the last several years, the St. Cletus Women's Club has donated money to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Cletus Social Concerns, and, most recently, to the St. Cletus Capital Campaign. The gloves, hats, scarves, and slippers that were generously donated by Women's Club members and their guests at our annual Christmas event have been truly appreciated by the St. Cletus Food Pantry clients.

After much consideration, the Women's Club will not be hosting the luncheon this Christmas season. Although we have enjoyed planning this festive event, meeting many new women, and supporting the needs of the parish and our community, the Women's Club currently lacks the leadership and structure that is necessary for it to be a purposeful entity of our congregation. We have gained an overwhelming appreciation for the beauty, talent, and strength of our women but feel that the time has come to step down and pass the baton to the next generation, should anyone be interested. We remain hopeful that the St. Cletus Women's Club can one day have a greater presence within our faith community, so please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for your time and talents you have generously shared. Merry Christmas to you and your families!

       Sincerely,
