November 13, 2013

Dear School Parent,

Our 1st trimester has come to an end, the leaves have fallen off the trees, and we even had our first real snowfall.  Where has the year gone?  We look forward to seeing you at the Parent-Teacher conferences on Tuesday, November 26th.  Don't forget, there is no school this Friday, November 15th, because the teachers have an in-service.

As you will see later in the Scoop, our fall fundraisers were a tremendous success. It was great to see so many families at Baker's Square and Aurelio's for Dining for Dollars.  Thanks for all you do for St. Cletus School and our wonderful students.  Enjoy the weekend as we return to more autumn-like temperatures!

Sincerely,

Margaret M. Hayes

Principal

It's a Wrap--Walk-a-Thon Meets Its Goal!

The sixth grade would like to thank everyone who participated in the Walk-a-Thon.  Together, with your help, we met our fundraising goal of $18,000 for St. Cletus School!

Congratulations to the fourth grade, who exceeded their fundraising goal by 10%, earning a pizza party for their grade.  Ten different classrooms met or exceeded their goals, including Mrs. Walton's preschool class; Mrs. Bentley's kindergarten class; Mrs. Schaefer's first grade class; Mrs. Barber's second grade class; Mrs. Reckwerdt's third grade class; Miss Thomas' third grade class; Ms. Kasl's fourth grade class; Ms. Lewandowski's fourth grade class; Ms. McNamara's sixth grade class; and Mrs. Rotunno's eighth grade class.  Two classrooms--Mrs. Barber's second grade class and Mrs. Schaefer's first grade class--also won participation awards for having 100% of their students raise money in the Walk-a-Thon.  These students earned pizza parties, dress down days, and gym shoe days for their classrooms.

But that's not all.  Over 40 students won individual raffle prizes, including Maddy Cranny, who took home four 200-level Blackhawks tickets for a game this November, and Neil Doherty, who won a Kindle Fire.  A complete list of raffle prize winners is posted on-line on the Walk-a-Thon web page at Walk-a-Thon Results.

Again, thank you to all the families who participated in the Walk-a-Thon.

7th and 3rd Grade Service Project: Project Linus

Project Linus Mission: provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need, through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

The seventh and third grade students will be paired up to create fleece blankets for children in need. We will be creating these together on December 12th.

We are asking seventh and third grade students to donate toward the cost of fleece in order to make the blankets. The students should EARN this money by doing housework, yard work, or anything else to serve others. The more everyone is able to donate, the more blankets we can make for the children. We are asking for each student to earn at least $5.00. Once the blankets are made, they will be delivered to a Chicago Linus Project Branch location.

If you would like help donate, please bring in donations by Tuesday, December 3, to your teacher.
