Dear School Parent,

The Walk-a-Thon is nearly upon us, and we are all looking forward to

great weather on this "FUNdraiser Friday." Students, remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring a light jacket or sweatshirt if needed.

One of my favorite children's holidays is Halloween, or as history calls it, "All Hallows Eve," the night before All Saints Day. Once again our festive tradition continues this year as our students, faculty, and staff may dress up for the occasion. Dress code guidelines are shown below under the Notes and Reminders section of this week's Scoop.

I can hardly wait to see all the creative, colorful.....and SCARY!.... costumes this special vigil day will bring to our school this year.

Sincerely,

Margaret Hayes

Principal

Notes and Reminders
Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Please visit the on-line Sign-up Genius to volunteer for upcoming parties and events at St. Cletus.  We especially need parent volunteers to help out with upcoming Halloween parties!

Parking Lot Reminder

Please DO NOT CROSS through the orange safety cones in order to park in the parking lot along 55th Street at any time during the school day.  Students come and go to and from the parking lot for recess, playtime, and gym classes throughout the day.  Parking is only allowed in the church lot and along Stone Avenue and 54th Street.

Halloween--Pre-K Through 8th Grades

Halloween is always a time for great fun.  For the past few years, all of us at St. Cletus have been dressing up for Halloween in a fun costume.  This year we will celebrate at the school on Thursday, October 31, with parties and costumes.  Please follow the guidelines below, and, students, come dressed for the day in your costumes:

  • Pre-school students: please follow the guidelines and information sent home by your pre-school teachers.
  • Costumes must be comfortable for all-day wearing--learning continues throughout the day.
  • Leave all props at home: wands, gloves, brooms, whistles, etc.
  • No masks, please--they can block vision.  Try makeup instead.  Remember, the children will be wearing this makeup all day.
  • Wear comfortable shoes--gym shoes are preferred.  We will still have gym class and recess.
  • Costumes must be school appropriate--NO violent or gory costumes, such as Freddy, Jason, etc.  However, skeletons, witches, Dracula, etc. are fine.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  This should be a "spooky day" for all.  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Dining for Dollars

Wondering what's for dinner? No problem! On Monday, October 21, take the night off and let Baker's Square handle that age-old question..."What's for dinner?" Head on over to Baker's Square on La Grange Road between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. to eat, socialize, and support St. Cletus. Come in for dinner and a slice of pie, or just stop in to say "hi" and pick up a whole pie for dessert at home!  A portion of all sales benefits St. Cletus School. NO FLYER IS REQUIRED.  We hope to see you there!

My Coke Rewards for Schools

Donate points to help St. Cletus School earn rewards we can really use, like athletic equipment and games. It doesn't take a lot of effort, but every time you've enjoyed one of the Coca-Cola products, you can make donations to St. Cletus School by turning in your bottle caps or product numbers to the school office. Last year Miss Pryor received 7200 in points, which translated into 6 scooters and two hockey nets.  So far this year we've earned 5600 points. Our goal is 10,000.00.

Brands include Coca-Cola, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Sprite, DasaniPowerade, Minute Maid, Fanta, Barq's, Fresca, Pibb, Mello Yello, FUZE, Seagram's, and Tab.

Second Grade Service Project
The second grade class is collecting pop tabs throughout the school year to earn money to donate to the Ronald McDonald House.  Please send your pop tabs to Room 109 or 110 (second grade classrooms).

Box Tops for Education
We are participating in the Box Tops for Education Program this year.  Our goal is to raise over $2,000 to help the Family School Association.  Simply cut out the Box Tops on certain items and have your child bring them to his/her classroom.  Each month, the winning classroom (with the most Box Tops collected) will receive a special treat!  For a list of participating products, please click here: Box Tops for Education
Congratulations to Room 112, Mrs. Reckwerdt's class, our October winner!

Labels for Education
This year, our school will participate in the LabelsforEducation® program, in which we collect UPC's and beverage/sauce caps from participating products to earn points that will be redeemed for FREE educational merchandise!

Our goal this year is to collect 50,000 points.  It's easy to help--simply save UPC's and beverage/sauce caps and drop them off at St. Cletus.

Please send labels in to your child's classroom or the school office. To see a complete list of products and point values, please visit Labels for Education.
