Ask and it’ll get answered in this space next newsletter! This week’s question: “Do fasting diets work?” NO! I can’t count the number of times I get asked which fasts or major cleanses I recommend. The truth is fasting is a sure-fire way to destroy your metabolism. Even though you’ll see a temporary weight loss, the key word is temporary. You’ll lose weight while fasting but then when you eat normally again, you’ll gain it all back and then some. Fasting throws your body into starvation mode and your body responds by releasing hormones to slow metabolism, cannibalize muscle (yes, EAT it), and store fat. Fat is needed for survival while muscle is not. Plus, muscle burns more calories than fat so the body naturally wants to shed muscle in order to survive. Don’t fast. EVER!
