Your 4th of July Body Plan!

Weeks 1–4
So I'm back from the Land of Maternity – you know, where everyone looks better rested than you (because they are), you can't remember if you brushed your teeth or ate breakfast, you live in pajamas and your new perfume is Eau de Spit Up. Now I at least change into workout clothes every day...Which leads me to the real topic at hand here: Getting my body ready for summer. And since I know I'm not alone in feeling like the clock is ticking before we must "bare arms" and sneak ourselves into our bathing suits, I'm giving you all my plan for getting into shape by the 4th of July. We're talking about real shape, because I do realize round is a shape. But that's not the one we want now, is it? How about a more toned, less flabby shape? Sign me up please! This week’s question:

“Do fasting diets work?”

NO! I can’t count the number of times I get asked which fasts or major cleanses I recommend. The truth is fasting is a sure-fire way to destroy your metabolism. Even though you’ll see a temporary weight loss, the key word is temporary. You’ll lose weight while fasting but then when you eat normally again, you’ll gain it all back and then some. Fasting throws your body into starvation mode and your body responds by releasing hormones to slow metabolism, cannibalize muscle (yes, EAT it), and store fat. Fat is needed for survival while muscle is not. Plus, muscle burns more calories than fat so the body naturally wants to shed muscle in order to survive. Don’t fast. EVER!

 

 

Skype

 

Train with me from anywhere in the world and in the comfort of your own home/gym/hotel room! Skype is free to download and simple to use, all you need is a web cam. By eliminating the need for me to travel to you, Skype training sessions are a lower cost than typical off-site sessions. You can also invite friends to join you as long as you each have your own web cam. If you don’t have any gym equipment, no worries! Skype sessions can consist of custom workouts using your own body weight. All you have to do is turn on your computer and push your coffee table aside! Lunch Breaj

 

 

Poise offers a year-round lunch hour circuit class every
Monday and Wednesday from 12 – 1pm!
Here’s what you get: 35 minutes of circuit training mixed with cardio intervals to elevate your heart rate and burn fat while building strength and toning your muscles. Here’s what you do: Notify Crystal that you’ll be joining us by calling or emailing (contact info below). Show up anytime between 12 and 12:20pm (this way if your boss is making you run late, no worries!), and get your sweat on! Here’s what you’ll pay: $12 per class, or purchase an 8-session punch card for $86 (that’s a $10 savings). Water and towels are provided, just bring yourself and be ready for a power workout! Blueberry Blast Smoothie

A new favorite smoothie of mine that incorporates some of my faves – blueberries, banana, apple and strawberries. Don't be alarmed by the sugar – it's coming from natural sources which should be where you get most your sugars from on a daily basis. If you need a bigger breakfast just add some protein powder for more staying power.
