How Much Do You Know About Food?

The other day I gave a nutrition seminar to a small group of people who were looking to understand how to eat healthier and make better food choices. This is a seminar I've given many times, however this time in particular struck me as interesting because it became apparent to me how very seldom we are still not looking at the ingredients in what we're buying, and if we are looking at them we don't necessarily know what they are. So I decided to make this a fun experience for you all and give you a test! Not really, but it is a fun little food quiz to see how much you really know about what's in your food. I hope it helps you become a healthy version of you! CLICK HERE to see how much you know.

Got A Question

Ask and it’ll get answered in this space next newsletter!

This week’s question:

“On average, what is the ideal ratio of protein, fat and carbs I should be consuming?”

As a general rule, aim to get 40% of your daily calories from protein,
30% from fat and 30% from carbs. A gram of protein and a gram of carbohydrate each contain 4 calories while a gram of fat contains
9 calories. So if you're counting your calories, at the end of the day you want to get the above percentages out of your total intake.
The rule changes a bit for those people trying to build mass amounts
of muscle (body builders) and people training for special events
(athletes and marathon runners).

Maternity Leave

Trainer Mama is taking another temporary break to welcome another member to the posse and many of you have asked when this will take place. My last working day will be Friday, February 22nd and I'll be returning Monday, April 15th. I'll have a slightly new schedule,
but am also working on a fun new project that MAY have something to do with being able to train clients from anywhere, anytime.
That's all I'll say for now. Until then, it's business as usual!

  Blueberry Muffin

Oatmeal Blueberry Applesauce Muffins

Here it is, the much-anticipated recipe I bragged about on Facebook! As a result of both the frigid temperatures and becoming increasingly pregnant, I find myself wanting comfort foods in the form of baked goods. But knowing what's in most commercially baked goods I opted to head to my own kitchen. Many of you have asked if these are actually healthy — and I can proudly say yes, thanks to the use of whole wheat flour, oats, applesauce, low-fat buttermilk and blueberries.
