Eating Right in 2013: Easy Food Swaps To Save Major Calories

I think it's great that nearly everyone resolves to be healthier every New Year; I just wish more people would still be resolving come April! But I've been doing this long enough to know that one big reason people lose interest in working on their health is they run out of inspiration and motivation, and then they start to cheat with food more and more until they just give in and say "to hell with it." The fact is, you shouldn't deprive yourself so much that you feel you're dieting. The key is making small choices everyday that add up to the big picture. One way to do this is to choose healthier options when eating without feeling like you're giving up good flavor and comfort. CLICK HERE to find out what some of these healthier options are.

Got A Question

Ask and it’ll get answered in this space next newsletter!

This week’s question:

“What is xanthan gum and is it bad for me? I see it listed on the ingredients label often.”

Xanthan gum is a common ingredient in sauces and salad dressings, among many other things. It acts as a binding agent and thickener and is actually made from the bacteria of corn and soy, so if you're allergic to corn or soy you should definitely avoid anything with xanthan gum in it. But as of right now, experts think it's non-toxic. There are definitely other things on ingredients labels we should probably avoid more, so unless you have specific food allergies this one is likely safe.

Maternity Leave

Trainer Mama is taking another temporary break to welcome another member to the posse and many of you have asked when this will take place. My last working day will be Friday, February 22nd and I'll be returning Monday, April 15th. I'll have a slightly new schedule,
but am also working on a fun new project that MAY have something to do with being able to train clients from anywhere, anytime.
That's all I'll say for now. Until then, it's business as usual!

  Brussel Sprouts

Addictive Brussels Sprouts Salad

Don't cringe just because you see Brussels sprouts in your future! This easy salad is sure to impress even the faint of heart when it comes to these nutrition-packed little morsels. I actually served these at our family Christmas party and they were a hit! Something about the combination of the toasted nuts, shredded sprouts, cheese and light vinegar dressing make this a winner. Also, it's gluten-free in case you're trying to watch it. Don't be afraid of the fat content, as the olive oil is high in good fats. Just keep the remaining items on your plate lean!
