Dear Friends of the Phoenix Center,

Connie Brady, John Kemper, Paul Brady & Sarah Garrett at the Boots, Blues & Boogie Ball

We are happy to report that record-breaking funds were raised at our gala on February 7th - the Boots, Blues & Boogie Ball!  We surpassed our $100,000 goal with nearly 250 guests in attendance!

Event proceeds will directly fund professional, high-quality mental health services for children who have experienced trauma.

We believe every child deserves the highest quality of care - regardless of their ability to pay.

Thank you for making our mission and services possible - we truly could not operate without your support.  Thank you.

"Gratitude is the memory of the heart."

For Parents & Professionals: A Book Review

Click on photo for Amazon.com link
The pioneering experts behind the bestselling book The Whole-Brain Child now explore the ultimate child-raising challenge: discipline.

Highlighting the fascinating link between a child's neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tension, and tears.

Defining the true meaning of the "d" word (to teach, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to truly reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth. In doing so, the cycle of negative behavior (and punishment) is essentially brought to a halt, as problem solving becomes a win/win for both parent and child.

Inside this sanity-saving guide you'll discover:

  • strategies that help parents identify their own discipline philosophy and best methods to communicate the lessons they are trying to impart
  • new info. about brain development - and what kind of discipline is most appropriate for different stages of development
  • why time out may not be effective & what you can do instead
  • how to calmly connect with your child - no matter how extreme his/her behavior - while still setting clear and consistent limits
  • tips for navigating through the "emotional storm" to achieve insight, empathy and repair
  • twenty discipline mistakes great parents make - and how to best implement the principles of whole-brain parenting
Complete with candid parenting stories and playful illustrations that bring the authors' suggestions to life, No-Drama Discipline illustrates how to work with your child's developing mind to resolve conflict and strengthen resilience in both parent and child.
