ASDA welcomes three new chapters

ASDA will establish new chapters at the University of New England, University of Utah and A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health this year. With the additional schools, ASDA has 65 chapters. President Jiwon Lee, District 1 Trustee Sameet Gill and Director of Membership Danielle Bauer visited the University of New England on Sept. 13 to meet with students and the administration. A visit to the University of Utah is scheduled for Oct. 22 and Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health on Nov. 6.

2014 membership cycle opens on Oct. 14

ASDA is launching a new system to process 2014 memberships. Starting Oct. 14, chapters can upload their members into the system. Instructions and training sessions will be provided for those responsible for membership at each chapter. Chapters who process members and submit payment in full by Dec. 16 will receive $100.

Chapters can also start recruiting predental members to ASDA. The top three chapters that recruit the most predentals until Feb. 21 will earn cash awards at the Annual Session 2014. Predental members must identify the chapter that referred them when they apply for chapters to receive credit. Contact Erin Kato at Erin@ASDAnet.org with any questions.

Help ASDA reach out to pre-health advisors

Pre-health advisors play an important role in ASDA's efforts to reach out to predental students. ASDA will be sending pre-health advisors resources to share with predental students at their schools. We would like your help to ensure we are reaching advisors nationwide. Please provide us contact information for your advisor during undergrad by completing a brief survey by Oct. 31.

Please share this link with dental and predental students at your school to fill out:

On-boarding program for October

The on-boarding program was created to provide chapters a checklist of activities to do throughout the first semester. For the month of October, there are templates and resources to hold an ADPAC awareness week to promote ADPAC to your members.

The ADA House of Delegates meets Nov. 1-5

The House of Delegates, as the legislative and governing body of the ADA, speaks for the dental profession in the United States. Its 473 members are chosen by the 53 constituent societies, ASDA and the five federal dental services. ASDA has five voting members that represent ASDA at the ADA House. The House meets annually during the ADA Annual Session meeting, taking place next month in New Orleans.

Curious about how ideas become policy for the profession? Check out "Understanding Organized Dentistry. "In addition to explaining the House, the publication outlines the tripartite structure, identifies the councils, commissions and committees that govern the ADA, and more. You can request a hard copy by contacting ADA Office of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@ada.orgor 312-440-7470.

Membership FAQs

When can I renew my ASDA/ADA membership for next year?

ASDA and ADA's membership runs on a calendar year so your current membership will expire Dec. 31, 2013. Beginning in October, you can renew your membership for the 2014 year. This is also the date that you can begin remitting dues for your incoming first-year students. You can renew through your chapter or by visiting our website (for recruited chapters only). Our dues will remain the same at $75/year for joint membership in ASDA and ADA.

When you renew your membership, either with your chapter or online, be sure to update your contact information with ASDA so you continue to receive your benefits (see below for instructions on updating your address).
