Aug. 2 deadline for chapter award

The ASDA/Crest Oral-B Community Dentistry Awards will be presented to ASDA chapters for their excellence in implementing programs with groups that lack access to oral health education and dental care. Cash prizes will be given to chapters for first ($700), second ($500) and third place ($300) winners at ASDA's 2014 Annual Session in Anaheim, Calif. Each district that has 100 percent of their chapters participating in this program will receive $500 towards district activities.

Chapters will receive $100 in grant money to purchase supplies for their events. To earn the grant money, they must hold two outreach events before Dec. 31, 2013. Chapters must submit an intent form by Aug. 2 as well as a report of their program by Jan. 31, 2014. If you have any questions, contact Erin Kato, member relations specialist, at Erin@ASDAnet.org.

Getting Involved Early with ASDA by Attending NLC

Chapter presentation opportunity at NLC

Your chapter is invited to apply to present a 50-minute session at NLC on Saturday, Nov. 16. Topics could include a unique and/or successful event or fundraiser your chapter organized, how you launched a website or newsletter, leadership training ideas or advice to share with other chapters.

Benefits to your chapter and the presenter(s):

  • ASDA will cover NLC registration and travel for one speaker. Up to two people can present the session together.
  • Chapter exposure on a national level - your school and presenters will be featured in the NLC mobile app, meeting program and will be given a special shout out during a general session
  • Shows your administration you are involved and engaged in organized dentistry
  • Practice your public speaking (approx. 50 people are expected in this breakout)
  • Presenter(s) can add this accomplishment to his/her CV

To apply, e-mail the following to Meghan@ASDAnet.org at ASDA central office by Aug. 19:

  1. Completed session submission form describing the topic and learning objectives.
  2. A 2-3 minute video of the potential speaker(s) explaining the session or presenting a portion of the session.

Your chapter may submit up to three sessions for consideration. You must complete a submission form and send a video for each one. The NLC planning committee will review all submissions and select a chapter by Sept. 20.

Network with new dentists in New Orleans

The New Dentist Reception is held during the ADA Annual Session where you can connect with new dentist leaders in a relaxed setting. The reception takes place Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30-7 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and include light fare and drinks. Both new dentists and dental students attend this event each year. You may purchase tickets when registering for Annual Session at ADA.org/session. The New Dentist Reception is code E001.

Dental students receive free registration for the ADA Annual Session. Even though your registration is free, all CE courses are ticketed, so advance registration is strongly encouraged.

Membership FAQs

When can I renew my ASDA/ADA membership for next year?

ASDA and ADA's membership runs on a calendar year so your current membership will expire Dec. 31, 2013. Beginning in October 2013, you can renew your membership for the 2014 year. This is also the date that you can begin remitting dues for your incoming first-year students. You can renew through your chapter or by going directly online to www.ASDAnet.org/renewnow.aspx (for recruited chapters only). Our dues will remain the same at $75/year for joint membership in ASDA and ADA.

When you renew your membership, either with your chapter or online, be sure to update your contact information with ASDA so you continue to receive your benefits (see below for instructions on updating your address).

Who should I contact with questions?

Please ask members to contact membership@ASDAnet.org with any questions or concerns.
