Important IRS tax forms for chapters

Forty-two ASDA chapters are part of the ASDA Group Exemption. These chapters now have "tax exempt" status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The IRS requires that your chapter submit a Form 990 by May 15 every year. Letters and authorization forms will be sent to the first and second delegates of the 42 participating chapters included in the ASDA group exemption.

  • If your chapter has $50,000 or less in annual gross receipts for the 2012 calendar year, submit Form 990-N. ASDA can complete this form for your chapter, as long as you provide written consent by completing the authorization form sent to you this month. The deadline to return your form is April 15, 2013.
  • If your chapter has more than $50,000 in annual gross receipts for the 2012 calendar year, your chapter must submit Form 990 or 990-EZ to the IRS. Your chapter is responsible for completing these forms on its own.

Please note that these rules are applicable to all chapters, and all exempt organizations, whether or not they are part of a group exemption. The group exemption only granted tax exempt status on a group basis. It does not in any way change the IRS filing requirements for chapters.

Earn money for your chapter - collect e-mails!
ASDA's e-mail drive is happening right now. E-mail is the main way ASDA benefits and opportunities are delivered to your chapter and we need your help to keep the lines of communication open. For each graduating class with 100 percent of e-mails collected, your chapter will receive $25. Chapters who submit 100 percent of e-mails for their entire membership will be entered into a raffle for $500! E-mail updates are due in the central office by Feb. 28. Information has been sent to all first and second delegates. Congratulations to Boston, Case Western, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Southern Illinois and Washington for submitting completed lists and earning $100, plus entrance into the raffle for $500! If you have questions, contact Erin Kato, member relations specialist, at Erin@ASDAnet.org .

Earn up to $500 from ADA for your chapter

The 2013 ADA Conversion Drive is underway and your chapter can earn up to $500 while helping fourth year students transition to ADA membership as dentists.

Every chapter has received a Conversion Drive kit. Simply distribute the Where Are You Going? forms to all fourth-year students and return the completed forms to the ADA by April 1. If you prefer to complete the forms online, share the online survey with the fourth year students at your school.

The Where Are You Going? form is the first step in transitioning to ADA membership after graduation - it allows the ADA to send new graduates the appropriate membership application. Questions? Contact the ADA Office of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@ada.org or 800-621-8099 ext 7470.
