Friends and neighbors,
In December, the County Board welcomed five new members as they were sworn into office. Nick Sauer, from Barrington, is one of the new members. County boards were required to redraw district lines so that each district has equal population, according to federal and state laws. This takes place every 10 years. Because of the redistricting, my county board district boundary changed drastically, and I no longer represent the residents in the Village of Wauconda and about 80% of Wauconda Township. Commissioner Sauer now has that privilege. While it saddens me to no longer be your local representative, I look forward to working with him on issues important to all of you. I remain loyal and will continue supporting you alongside Commissioner Sauer. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any reason.
With this boundary change, I feel you may want to start receiving Commissioner Sauer's ENews, which will keep you up to date on county news, events and issues directly related to District 17. If you want to continue receiving my ENews, please send me an email stating that. Thank you.
As always, it's a pleasure and honor representing you on the County and Forest Preserve Boards. Please contact me any time for any reason. I am always glad to hear your concerns, interests and ideas. Government works best with your involvement.
Bonnie Thomson Carter

PASSAGE Network Continues to Grow
Lake County PASSAGE provides real-time traffic information about local roads, so you can anticipate, plan and avoid gridlock. The PASSAGE intelligent transportation system uses interconnected signals to manage traffic flow and monitor traffic conditions.
The PASSAGE network is continuing to grow. Through the use of federal congestion relief funds, the City of Highland Park and the Lake County Department of Transportation incorporated the traffic signals in Highland Park into PASSAGE. The traffic signals have been retimed, monitoring cameras have been added, and a real-time connection to the Highland Park Police Department has been established. These upgrades will provide better guidance to motorists in this area of Lake County.

Flu Cases on the Rise
Cases of the flu are on the rise across the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported widespread influenza activity in 47 states, including Illinois.
The flu is a contagious, viral respiratory illness. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, which could lead to death. In order to reduce the risk of getting the flu, it is important to get the flu vaccination each year. Everyone 6 months of age and older should be vaccinated, especially pregnant women, young children, people 65 years of age and older, and anyone with underlying health conditions like asthma, diabetes, or a weakened immune system.
Visit the Lake County Health Department's website for more information about the flu, or read the CDC's advice on three actions you can take to help prevent the flu.
