Board Minute!

By Xoe Huffman, Port Townsend Main Street Board Treasurer and Daily Bird Business Manager
April has been described as "the cruellest month" and with income taxes, property taxes and the like, it may feel like that. But help is here for the asking, and we have terrific resources in our own community. We have savvy accountants, bookkeepers, business advisors and Team Jefferson EDC all ready to help.
Our Economics Committee is going to launch the online Main Street Building and Business Inventory website in April. This new resource will give a feel for the present business landscape through an interactive map with the historic districts' buildings, business listings and contact details. The Main Street HUD Loan Program (Spring application deadline today) has spurred nearly $400,000 in historic preservation work and facade improvements since its inception. We are dedicated to the prosperity of our historic districts and we are excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our program this year. Details coming to our website.
And in family business news, Daily Bird Pottery has spread its wings and relocated to a new space (and our own building) at 2009 4th Street in the Castle Hill area (behind Jiffy Lube). Please stop by to visit, take home some beautiful naked pottery, or sign up for a class. And yes, you can still look for little daily birds perched all over town.

GREAT NEWS FOR PT LODGING
A Message from Christina Pivarnik, City of Port Townsend Marketing Director
Over the past six months, Nathan Barnett from the Old Consulate Inn, and Dave Petro from the Ravenscroft Inn, have been working with a company called Think Reservations to create a Port Townsend Lodging Availability Board website. This system will let visitors search for availability at participating lodgings for specific dates from the EnjoyPT.com site or a kiosk display at the new Visitor Information Center (VIC), even after hours when it is closed. These features will greatly enhance our guests' experiences. Questions? Please contact Dave or Nathan. They'll be happy to assist and they will be the managers of the Lodging Availability Board, not the City of Port Townsend. Thanks Nathan and Dave!
Here's their contact info:
Hanging Flower Basket Program
Spring is here--time to beautify Port Townsend with Hanging Flower Baskets. The baskets are ordered through Henery's Garden Center, they will be sending order forms to businesses that have ordered baskets in the past. To order baskets, please call 385-3354 or email henerysgardencenter@olypen.com
and they will send you an order form. The Port Townsend Main Street Program hires an independent gardening assistant (Thank you Tara!) to make sure the baskets will receive top care and attention for the full season, 21 weeks! This includes securing the baskets to discourage theft, watering, fertilizing and maintaining the flowers. We offer this maintenance option to those businesses which find it easier to use an outside service. Find out more about the maintenance program here.
Shamrock Security Squad How many lads & lassies does it take to have a fun St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl? 75! 'Twas a grand time! Thanks to our participating pubs, Security squad Xoe & Gayle, to Dawn, and thanks to all who came. Here's a special shout-out to Dawn Pierson, who was recently promoted from Administrative Assistant to Port Townsend Main Street Program Coordinator--congratulations Dawn! We appreciate all you do to help keep our nonprofit program humming. --Mari Mullen, Port Townsend Main Street Program Executive Director
