"ESCAPE INTO ART" FEATURES WORKSHOPS, FREE POP-UP PLAYS AND FUN FUNDRAISERS TO SUPPORT ARTS EDUCATION IN PORT TOWNSEND
Pop in to "Scrabble in Babel" during Gallery Walk--one-act plays produced by a new independent theatre group in Port Townsend. Two short plays will be performed in a "pop-up" theater at The Hastings Building from 6pm to 8 pm in support of "Escape into Art" fundraising efforts. Follow signs to 118 Taylor Street, across from Admiralty Apts.
"Sur La Maison" 6:10 pm & 7:10 pm "Eralset" 6:45 pm & 7:45 pm
This evening of one-act plays is produced by Festum Asinorium, a new independent theatre group in Port Townsend. This translates to "Feast of Asses--or Feast of Fools"--a celebration of medieval origins which turns convention on its head and the fools are kings. The group has a bare bones approach to theatre which reveals the essence of performance.
6:10 pm & 7:10 pm
"Sur La Maison" by Michael Grady
Cast: Paul Rice, Brandon Chappell and Laura Ann Eggerichs
Mini-plot synopsis:
While dining at a fancy bistro, Charli decides to leave John...for the waiter. Charli wants to stay friends. John has grieving to do. But can he hurry up?
6:45 pm & 7:45 pm
"Eralset" by Michael Grady
Cast: Michael Grady, Frank Iuro
Mini-plot synopsis:
Gabe and Skip are shipwrecked on a desert island with nothing to do but play Scrabble. Without a dictionary to check their English, their language devolves into gibberish. With no one to understand them but themselves are they ready to be rescued?
This new theatre group is planning to have other offerings this year in under-used or vacant spaces in Port Townsend. Donations are welcome at the performances and proceeds benefit the arts in the schools program as part of "Escape into Art" fundraising activities on May 3, 2014.
