Merchant Spotlight!
"I inherited the passion for photography at the age of eight, where I learned to use my father's cast-off professional cameras. He had been the first photo editor of the Peace Corps, and taught me the art of unobtrusive, documentary-style photojournalism. Growing up in Washington, DC, I was fortunate to also have the expert guidance of several black and white printers. This not only enabled me to become a master printer myself, but it gave me a good foundation for creating digital B&W images that are every bit as good as traditional photographs.
When I photograph a wedding, I treat it as a photo essay made up of many "decisive moments." I believe that every image should stand on its own, and tell a story to the viewer. I also believe that it is important not to influence the day with my presence any more than is absolutely necessary. Great candid images are much harder to make than people realize, requiring patience, timing, and the ability to blend in with the surroundings. Most comments that I receive are to this effect, that they were not aware that a photographer was working."
David moved from the Midwest eleven years ago, and feels blessed to be located in Port Townsend. Along with his passion for photography, David also plays bass guitar for a local band, The Toolshed Trio. David is also the talent behind the camera for many of the Port Townsend Main Street Family Portrait Community Photo Shoots. Thanks David!

Customer Connection
"Once on a very busy weekend evening, when the entire town was sold out, a van arrived in front of the Bishop and a family tumbled out looking for accommodations. They claimed to have been sent the long way around through Mukilteo, Whidbey and finally Port Townsend when they were coming from the south!
I was beginning to call around when one of the locals who was viewing the art in The Bishop Gallery mentioned that they had a loft apartment that these desperate guests could use. The guest looked very uncertain and I said to her, "You need to do this!" So, off they went. Many years later I ran into this loft couple and reminded them of this incident. They told me that they had kept in touch and had visited the family once in Oregon.
This is true Port Townsend hospitality and something that I will never forget.
The historic hotels in Port Townsend have an email alert when Historic Inns and B&B's have available weekend rooms. When guests call or arrive looking for rooms after the Visitor's' Center is closed, downtown hoteliers can send these guests to lodgings where availability is assured. We want visitors to have a good experience and not spend their valuable time in Port Townsend searching for a room.
When guests call with a request we are unable to accommodate, they are often surprised that we recommend and provide phone numbers for alternative lodgings. We often provide information on long term accommodations that we can't fit into our schedules and look to the GetAway guide for long term vacation rentals for these clients. We can also take care of last-minute guests referred by restaurants, give them a toothbrush and save them a long drive home. "
