Board Minute
Greetings from the Board!
We've got a couple neat things planned for March that you'll want to put on your calendars.
We kick off the Port Townsend Pub Crawls on March 17th, which just happens to be St. Patrick's Day! Tickets are only $10 you will receive a complimentary souvenir glass, plus EXCLUSIVE drink and food specials at participating establishments. If you haven't been out and enjoyed the Uptown/Downtown night life in a while, this is the perfect chance to reacquaint yourself. Our little city has big fun, even on Monday nights! If you miss this chance though, don't fret, because we have three more Pub Crawls planned for the year!
Also in March, Main Street is coordinating the "Insiders Historic Building Tours" during the Victorian Festival on March 23. Always wanted to experience the timeless interiors of the Hastings Building, or the secret "Shanghai tunnels" under the Mount Baker Block Building? Here's your chance, tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.vicfest.org.
Main Street is committed to celebrating our city's history, while working to keep Port Townsend vibrant and alive, as we push on through the ages. Thanks for supporting us, and your home. You're the best.

Merchant Spotlight!
Meet Tim and Pam Nebel, owners of Getables.
Getables is a family-operated curator of specialty foods, beverages, and gifts located at 810 Water Street in the epicenter of Port Townsend's vibrant historical district.
With an outdoor, picnic theme in mind, Getables provides it's loyal local customers and seasonal visitors with a wide array of thoughtfully sourced, grab-and-go opportunities: local goods, beer, wine, cider, cheese, snacks, sodas, and unique gifts - both whimsical & practical. Getables is open daily: 10am - 6pm.
After seven years of visiting family in town, Tim, Pam, and their daughter Mia moved from the S.F. Bay Area to Port Townsend in 2005 for a quality of life improvement. Tim tended bar at Water Street Brewing and then worked at The Green Eyeshade before opening Getables in March of 2012. Pam has continued on with her accounting duties at Clarity Enterprises in addition to owning and operating Getables. And Tim has a fun show called "Hodge-Podge" on Wednesday nights on our local radio station KPTZ 91.9 FM.

Customer Connection
Back to Basics - Good Old Common Sense
Excerpted from Nancy Friedman, the Telephone Doctor
- "Please" and "thank you" always have been, and always will be, powerful words. Seldom overused.
- "You're welcome" is the best replacement for "no problem."
- "Sorry 'bout that" is not an apology. It's a cliché. "My apologies" is much better.
- A frown is a smile upside down. Stand on your head if you must; but SMILE!
- One word answers on email or in person are considered cold and rude. Three words make a sentence.
- Learn what phrases frustrate your customers. They're probably the same ones that bother you.
- "Hey how 'ya doing?" is not a great way to start up a conversation.
- The old "don't tell 'em what you can't do; tell 'em what you can do" applies to most, if not all, customer interactions.
- Get excited!
- Oh, and smile. That needed to be said twice.
