Merchant Spotlight!
Julie and David McCulloch started the Elevated Ice Cream & Candy Co. as street vendors in an antique Victorian elevator cage in 1977, hence the name Elevated Ice Cream Co., and the motto "Lift Your Spirits!" They make all of our own ice cream and Italian ices on the premises. "Our ice cream is a combination of classic tradition paired with new and
exciting flavor opportunities. Our flavors emphasize our access to wonderful local ingredients (Sequim Strawberry and Local Raspberry ice creams) and our interest in flavors of the world (Cardamom ice cream)."
Julie and David were taught to make ice cream by a very dear friend of Julie's grandparents, Norm Glover, who had an ice cream parlor in Seattle for nearly 40 years. "Norm taught us how to make his most popular flavors, and showed us his special techniques--methods we still use to this day. In time, we invented our own flavors, and adapted other flavors to our own tastes." In May 2012, they purchased Baker Candy Company, founded and in continuous operation in North Seattle since 1929. Baker Candy Co. has produced chocolates for the McCullochs since 1978. They moved the production facility to Port Townsend and changed the name to Elevated Ice Cream and Candy Co. "Elevated" is both an expression of the ice cream company's humble beginnings in an antique elevator on Water Street, as well as the joy small treats bring to daily life.
Julie and David are active in the community, enjoy bicycling on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula, and especially enjoy the privilege of being in business in the extra-ordinary town of Port Townsend.

Customer Connection
What You Could Learn From Budweiser's Heart-Melting Ad. By
- Be distinct. When marketing your business or organization, think about all of the other marketing messages that are bombarding your target customers. Then ask yourself what you can do to make your approach distinct, so your message will be the most memorable.
- It's not about you. Stop focusing your marketing strategy on your company, product, service or yourself. Instead, develop a message that highlights what you are offering means to the targeted customer's life.
- Get emotional. Humans are emotional buyers. They buy something because they feel a certain way, and then later justify the decision with logic. In your own marketing initiatives, rather than trying to appeal to your target customers' logic, think about how you can appeal to their emotions.
- Clarify your target audience. In your next marketing initiative, think about who you want to reach. Craft your message around those people.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOILER ROOM

Drawings for a $60 prize will be held at The Boiler Room on March 1st, March 20th, April 3rd, April 17th, May 1st, May 15th and May 29th. Booster Club members will receive special recognition in the first zine published in 2015. Sound interesting? You can get more information or make arrangements to purchase a ticket by contacting any Boiler Room Board Members, messaging us on facebook, or emailing boilerroomed@gmail.com.
