Board Minute
Welcome to your 2014 Board Minute update!
I am so excited to begin my first year as the Port Townsend Main Street Board President, and for the many wonderful events and projects planned for the year. This Saturday, February 1st, is Gallery Walk - which means an abundance of great local art being showcased all over town, with some shops being open later as well! Also big news is our very own Seattle Seahawks going to the Super Bowl this Sunday! Check out some of the great places around town showing the game and featuring drink specials. Go Hawks!!
There's always something brewing up in PT, so see you all out there!

In case you missed it, Port Townsend was second on Fodor's list of 15 Best Main Streets in America in January! We were in great company with Key West, Staunton VA, Paducah KY, Charleston, Bath, Maine, San Luis Osbispo, CA and more. The article was posted on the Huffington Post and has received over 61,500 "likes" on Facebook.
Speaking of Facebook "likes"--have you liked our Port Townsend Main Street Facebook page yet? Click here!
We'd like that, thanks!

Merchant Spotlight!
The seaside-inspired lifestyle store in the heart of Port Townsend, just steps from the bay, features an eclectic mix of clean-lined modern design with rustic vintage and nautical finds. Located in the N.D. Hill Building, which was built in 1888 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, Conservatory Coastal Home mixes the old with the fresh and new.
Born and raised on the California Coast, Heather derives her greatest inspiration from the sea. Her specialty...bringing the outside in, combining a modern aesthetic with the luxuries nature provides. The former broadcast journalist moved with her husband Sam and children to Port Townsend in 2005. When Heather is not designing or decorating, she's busy concocting original scents for her popular line of Conservatory candles or out boating with her husband and two busy boys.

State Maritime Heritage Bill Update:
This just in from Chris Moore, Executive Director of The Washington Trust:
The State Maritime Heritage Area bill received a favorable hearing in the House and the Senate. On January 28th, advocates for our state's maritime heritage testified in support of HB 2386 and SB 6246: companion bills that would designate Washington's saltwater shorelines the first-ever State Maritime Heritage Area. The designation would be entirely non-regulatory, but would work to boost heritage tourism and recognize the economic impact of maritime-related trades and businesses. The Olympic Peninsula was well represented as local elected officials, tourism leaders, and regional heritage organizations encouraged legislators to move the bill forward. Thanks to all who gave their support!
Both Representative Van De Wege and Representative Tharinger are sponsors of the House Bill, while Senator Hargrove expressed his enthusiasm for the legislation. Please take a moment to thank our elected officials from the 24th District!

Customer Connection
Improve Your Bottom Line:
Greeting everyone who walks through the door.
Coming up with different greetings -- so customers don't hear the same greeting over and over when shopping in the store.
Having employees identify themselves when answering the phone.
Cleaning up the cash-wrap area as-you-go and putting everything in its place.
Listening, really listening to customers to help them find what they are looking for.
Getting everyone on board. Ensuring that everyone in the organization understands what the winning advantage is and what their role is in supporting it.
Making every customer feel special.

The Congressman (representing Washington's 6th District) visited with several store owners while on a break from an event at the Northwest Maritime Center. He stopped in and chatted about the economy with Jennefer Wood of Maestrale and Gail Boulter, who with her husband Kevin Burgler, owns The Green Eyeshade, The Clothes and Fancy Feathers, Northwest Man and What's Cookin'. The Congressman is an avid Seahawks Fan and purchased some football-related partyware at The Green Eyeshade.

A Message and Free Advertising Offer from KPTZ Radio
"In our Spring Fundraiser, KPTZ is offering a new premium that will be called the KPTZ Community Card, and it will be mailed out to anyone that donates a minimum of $30. Normally 500+ people donate at that level. The card will be good for one year and can be used at participating businesses. We are offering all local businesses the opportunity to be part of this at no charge. Participating businesses will be listed on the KPTZ website, and promoted through quarterly donor newsletters for one year.
On the website we will list your logo, name of business, hours of operations, website and any kind of offer you would like to promote your business to our donors who have the Community Card (i.e. in-store offer - % off, free item with a purchase of an item, etc.). You will be able to change your offering every 3 months for a year. Again, this is no charge to you.
Please let KPTZ know if you have any questions or would like to sign up! All we would need is the first promotional offer and your logo which you can email to underwriting@kptz.org."
