January Events:
 

Jan. 3, JCHS First Friday Lecture "Fascinating Fishes", 7pm, 540 Water Street. Dan Magneson, fishery biologist for the Quilcene National Fish Hatchery, will explore historic fisheries, mostly from a commercial aspect, along with current trends in modern fisheries and on-going restoration efforts involving native species. $5 Suggested donation.

Jan. 4, Gallery Walk--start the year with art! Over a dozen galleries are participating. Bring friends, enjoy light refreshments, and revel in the diverse art showcased in Port Townsend. PT Shorts--Girls, Boys, and Booze Laughing with Dorothy Parker. 7:30pm at the Pope Marine Building.

Jan. 12, Historical Society Conservation Class - "Cleaning and Mending Paper Artifacts". Participants will learn how to hinge a work of art on paper to a backing board and do simple repairs with Japanese paper and wheat starch paste. Classes are at the JCHS Research Center, 13692 Airport Cutoff Road, 1pm. $30 per class for JCHS members or $45 for non-members. Call 360-385-1003 or come into the Historical Society office at 540 Water Street to register.  


Jan. 24-25, 10th Annual Strange Brewfest -a celebration of uniquely crafted brews from 30+ breweries and cideries from around our region. Most of the offerings will only be available at this festival. And most of those will challenge your taste buds, and their sensibilities. Also, if you've been to Strange Brewfest in year's past, you know that this celebration is always accompanied by a heavy dose of FUNK. We're talking, a HEAVY DOSE! This year, the music will blow your mind! You will shake it down on Shakedown Street!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to Cellar Door, 940 Water Street! It's been a fun and exciting year. Come down Mondays for game night, live music on Tuesday as well as amazing craft cocktails and awesome food! While you are there, check out the fantastic chalk artwork by Adam Mullet!  

  

 

Speaking of music, did you know Sirens, 823 Water St. has Open Mic night ever Wednesday and Karaoke every Thursday? Both start at 9pm. Also DJ Dance party every Friday and Saturday at midnight! Check out their website for other music and events to get you out of the house on these cold winter nights.

  

 

Do you like to write? The Writers' Workshoppe, 234 Taylor St. offers workshops! Check out their website to see the complete list of classes as well as upcoming readings and book clubs. 

 
Need more workshops? Daily Bird Pottery, 1011 Water St. has 3 workshops in January - Fairy Houses, Luminaries and Valentine's Boxes. Workshops are for all experience levels, and for those 13 years and older. Cost includes all materials, firing, and yummy snacks! Call today to reserve your space! (360)301-5646.

 
Visit Uptown Nutrition, 1002 Lawrence St. for free evening talks with many doctors and practitioners on the cutting edge in complementary medicine and alternative healing. Evening sessions are held at the store. Visit their website to see what is offered this month!

And for the foodie's out there, visit Lively Olive, 929 Water St. and sample gourmet olive oil and balsamic vinegars. You will be amazed at the selection, over 30 varieties. Then you can step next door and smell the spices at The Spice and Tea Exchange. Transform your food, your taste buds will thank you!
