Turning over a new leaf - Fall is almost here!
Greetings!

The leaves outside are changing colours, and The Redwood is buzzing inside with back-to-school excitement.

Fall signifies a time of transformation and new beginnings. At The Redwood, we see lives change every day thanks to you. At this time, kids reminisce about all the special summer memories you helped them make. Women celebrate new milestones and find the strength to go back to school too.

Whether it's a new school year or a fresh start at a new life, you inspire moms and kids to leave abuse behind and turn over a new leaf. Thank you for your dedication to our community. You are helping create a safe haven where women can heal and start their lives over, free from fear and violence.
Monthly donors ROCK!
Dave Bidini is a rock star, author, social justice crusader, and one of our fabulous monthly donors!

In our Fall newsletter, Dave talks about why he loves The Redwood, the importance of giving back to our community, and why he is passionate about ending violence against women.

Monthly donors like you and Dave change lives every day.

You helped Elena go back to school
Fall isn't just an exciting time for kids going back to school.

You helped Elena and her son escape an abusive relationship five years ago. She returned to our Women on the Move Leadership Program, and with your support made her dream of going back to school a reality!

Today, Elena is celebrating her upcoming graduation and is excited to find a new job and career path.

You inspire women like Elena to make their dreams come true every day. Read her inspiring story in our latest 2015 Fall Newsletter (PDF).

Indian Kiss helps make back-to-school easier
Going back to school will be much easier for kids this year, thanks to Jessi and Ranjan from Indian Kiss.

"We are proud to host our school supply drive for many reasons.

For the kids, living under some very new circumstances, these supplies will help make school a central part of their new life. We do this to help ease the burden for the women who made the decision to leave their abusive situations in hopes of a fresh start. We also do this for the women who have not yet made their decision to leave.

By offering our effort, and in turn the support of our customers, we hope that when the time comes and the decision is made, there will always be a place of safety like The Redwood to call on."  - Jessi and Ranjan

Helping kids discover their inner superhero
We are honoured to be the first Canadian Playmakers with the Life is Good Kids Foundation!

The Foundation partners with childcare organizations across the U.S. and Haiti to positively impact the quality of care delivered to the most vulnerable children. This amazing organization has just been launched in Canada and they chose The Redwood as the first Canadian organization to partner with! Wow! Five staff members were flown to Minneapolis to participate in the first level of training to be a Playmaker.

Life is Good Playmaker is someone who spreads the power of optimism to children who desperately need it. Optimism enables us to access the ten most important tools we have for living a happy and fulfilling life. We learned about the Life is Good Superpowers, things like Creativity, Love, Compassion, Humour and Fun!

We are so excited to share all we learned with the moms and kids of The Redwood! Stay tuned for more exciting news!

Celebrate your special moments with
The Redwood
We love to celebrate all of our amazing donors at The Redwood! The next time you are celebrating a special milestone, why not rejoice with us in mind?

Sloan recently commemorated his Bar Mitzvah with a special tribute for moms and kids at The Redwood.

"My son Sloan celebrated his Bar Mitzvah this summer.

Part of the ceremony is to perform a good deed and give back to the community.

Since Sloan is a voracious reader, he decided to donate books and a portion of the money he received to The Redwood shelter.

We value all the wonderful work they do and hope that this donation will help them continue providing their much needed service to women and children." -
Bailie, Sloan's mom
