C.S. Lewis Institute
    Resources for Discipleship of Heart and Mind

Greetings!

Greetings in the name of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ! On behalf of the facilitators of the C.S. Lewis Institute - Annapolis (George Anderson, Sig Berg, John Bishop, Jim Hiskey, and Jim Phillips), I offer you this edition of the CSLI Annapolis Newsletter.

Mission of C.S. Lewis Institute:

The C.S. Lewis Institute was founded in 1976 in the legacy of its namesake as an organization which endeavors to challenge, educate, and disciple those who will, like Lewis, articulate, defend, and live faith in Christ through personal and public life. The Institute's vision complements the work of the Church, equipping thoughtful believers to impact their sphere of influence for Jesus Christ. This discipleship of heart and mind takes place by means of teaching, readings, and mentoring.

Mission of C.S. Lewis Institute - Annapolis:

The Mission of C.S. Lewis Institute - Annapolis is to extend the mission of the C.S. Lewis Institute to the Annapolis community, with a special passion for the students and faculty of Saint John's College and the U.S. Naval Academy. Ours is to disciple the people the Lord brings to us and connect them to each other so that they can lead the Church, the State, and the nations.

February Update:

There are three significant activities that we want to call your attention to in this newsletter.

1. We are accepting applications now for the 2013-2014 Year One Fellows Program;
2. You need to register now to attend the C.S. Lewis annual banquet on April 11th;
3. Amy's collegiate update.

More on each of these below:

A call for Fellows Applications:

Yes! It is time to call for applications to the 2013-2014 Fellows Program. Over 700 people have completed this year long discipleship study in the DC/Annapolis area. Here are the topics of study for the Year One program:
  • The Fatherhood of God
  • The Grace of God and True Conversion
  • Following Jesus Christ
  • Living a Life of Love
  • Growing in Humility
  • The Holy Spirit and Obedience
  • Growing in Prayer
  • Being Transformed Through the Bible
  • Conversational Apologetics (mini-retreat)
  • Living a Life of Faith and Generosity
  • Pursuing God's Call on Your Life
  • The Mission of Disciple-making

You will be in a small group, have a mentor, and read/listen/watch some of the best media available on the topics above. Each month culminates in a Saturday morning meeting (usually the first Saturday of the month) where you can discuss the readings, hear a gifted lecturer on the monthly topic, and engage the speaker in Q&A.

Michael Ramsden said of the Fellows Program: "In all my travels around the world, I have never seen a discipleship program as effective as that of the C.S. Lewis Institute."

If you are considering applying, you can find the application for the Annapolis Fellows Program on our website. You can also receive a summary of program requirements and general information by emailing Jim Phillips. Applications are due by April 15th.

CSLI Annual Banquet, April 11th:

You will want to mark your calendars for Thursday evening, April 11th, 2013. This will be the annual CSLI Banquet in Washington, DC and the reason I am calling your attention to this is that our speaker will be Dr. James Kim, president of PUST (Pyongyang University of Science and Technology in North Korea) and YUST (Yanbian University of Science and Technology in NE China).

Come hear Dr. Kim's personal testimony - and learn about his life's story as a devout follower of Christ living in China and North Korea and his vision for building disciples throughout Asia. ASLAN IS ON THE MOVE and it's thrilling and encouraging! We hope that you will join us! For more information or to RSVP, please email us or call us at (703) 914-5602, ext. 5101.

Amy's Collegiate News:

Seniors are finished with their essays!... and orals have begun. Pray for the seniors as they now present and defend their papers to a trio of tutors over the coming months. I have had interesting conversations already following on from attending a senior's oral. This past week it was very encouraging to meet with several freshmen women to have lunch and hear about what God is doing in their lives, as well as discuss conversations that they have had with non-believers. It was exciting to talk about the role our personal testimony and faith in witnessing around campus, and I hope that we will be able to meet regularly. Our men's and women's weekly fellowships continue as usual, and it is a blessing to see the community that is growing there.

Today marks the beginning of spring break for the next two weeks, so please pray for safety, rest and fun! I met with the archons (leaders) of the Christian Fellowship this past week and it was great to talk with them and plan about the rest of the semester. When we return from spring break, we are looking forward to having a banquet together on Saturday, March 23 on campus in the boathouse to reconnect, fellowship, make toasts and share poems (and possibly do some swing dancing!) We're also looking forward to planning a seminar on campus with a speaker, and another joint event with the midshipmen. Please continue to pray for SJC, for more opportunities for conversational apologetics, and that God's Truth would prevail!

Thank you for your prayers and support of CSLI Annapolis.

Please pray for the men and women associated with the Institute and the lives they have been entrusted to touch. Our ministry in Annapolis is not about numbers, it is about touching the lives of the men and women God brings to us before they go out into His service.
