Autumn to Fall, 2013

Future shock... or not.

Young writers wrote about their favorite (or not) places at the Saturdays in September workshops at our Fort Missoula headquarters. Watch for news about Saturdays in January and Saturdays in April.  More free workshops, courtesy of the National Endowment for the Arts
Our Town initiative.

Swimming in the Mudfall

Not my idea of a vacation

And not really fun

Mud can't really clean you off

Like when you're taking a bath

Mud does NOT taste good

Mud feels like quicksand

Surrounding you

Pulling you under

Mud is ickier than

You think it is

TEDx UMontana

People are still talking about the readings by David Bower and Elissa Taylor at the TEDx UMontana night on September 19.  David and Elissa are shown here with MWC Executive Director Megan McNamer, who introduced the students.

Beautiful Morning

There is a fresh atmosphere this morning.

Birds chirping, fresh smells.

Eggs cooking, people sleeping.

The beautiful morning.

Air  (an acrostic poem)

Alone in the dark

Inside the big, dusty box

Reading the forbidden book.

The Land

reflecting on Going to the Sun(Chief Mountain), the artwork of  Julius Seyler

The land feels

different.

In all the neighboring

pockets of universe

you hear the wind

taste the dust

and know the big space.

The land feels

different.

In all the next door pieces

of universe

colors are faded

as if worn by time

and thrown lightly.

The land feels

different.

In this snippet

of universe

you hear the stream

taste pure air

and know the closeness

of the land.

The land feels

different.

In this bubble

of universe

colors are bright

as if glowing with vitality

and set down heavily.

The land feels.

Some remarks from a supporter --

"The highlight of Fri and Sat was for me the young authors event Saturday morning.
I felt the most energized, inspired, moved and positive about the state of the written -- and spoken--- word, after their presentation.  The authors' reflections on the writing process, life, challenges, inspirations and the guidance they receive from MWC were revealing, fascinating -- occasionally humorous.  And then the authors read!!!  Wow. The works they read were ...  unfiltered truth! No extraneous words.  Outstanding stories.  Eloquent.  Moving. Heartbreaking.  And more.  True and inspiring."
(Thank you, Kathleen Kimble.)
