Kids: End of Summer Wrap-up

In a few weeks, the kids who have been away will return and the new school year will be upon us.  Here are a few easy steps you can take now to make next summer easier.

1.  Wash and Re-pack

Once all of the bedding and towels have been washed, re-pack them. Write a list of all the items that have been packed - put one copy on top of the duffel and another in your "camp" file.  The more items that can be packed now, the less there is to do later.

2.  Buy Now

Does your child need a new egg crate mattress, fan, lamp or comforter?  These items are easy to find in August as kids get ready to go to college.  Buy them now and pack them away; it may be hard to find what you need in the Spring.

3.  Discuss

Ask your child what they did and didn't need and adjust your list accordingly.

Packing for sleep-away camp can be overwhelming.  If you do some of it now,  before school starts, it will lighten the burden next summer.
Time:  De-Stress Deadlines

Do you freak out about meeting deadlines? Here are some practical tips for staying calm and being on time.

1.  Be realistic

Allow enough time to get the task done, anticipating unexpected setbacks (technology glitches, other crises, etc.)

2.  Negotiate

If a deadline put upon you is unrealistic, try to negotiate up front; before the work is delivered late.

3.  Work Backwards

Break large projects into small pieces with interim deadlines.  Planning from the deadline backwards will help reduce procrastination.  Small steps are less intimidating and easier to accomplish.

Home & Office: 2 Great Dropbox Tips

Dropbox is an easy-to-use free cloud storage service (users have the option to buy additional storage space.)

If you don't already have DropBox, you can sign up here:

Free DropBox Account

1.  Selective Sync

Dropbox automatically syncs everything in the cloud on your computer in your Dropbox folder.  If you go to Dropbox preferences on your computer and select the advanced tab, you can identify which items you want on your computer.  Everything remains available on Dropbox.com but it will require less storage on your computer.

2.  Older File Versions - If you accidentally save over a version of a file that you want, you can restore the old file by going to Dropbox.com, find the file, right click on it, and select Previous Versions.  This will provide you with a list from which you can select. Dropbox holds the old versions for up to 30 days.

Dropbox is easy to use and a great way to share photos and videos that are too large to email.  Sharing folders enables you to work on projects easily with others.
