Tip of the Month:

"If you do the same thing every day at the same time for the same length of time, you'll save yourself from many a sink. Routine is a condition of survival."

Kids:  Laundry

Tired of your kids complaining that they don't have clean clothes?

Make it easier for them to help with the laundry.

Here's how:

1.  Lights and Darks

From the age of two,  children can separate light and dark clothing. Consider having two hampers (the pop-up kind come in both white and navy/black) to provide a visual cue.

2.  Directions

Print and post step by step instructions by the washer and dryer. This makes it easier for the kids (and adults) to do it the way you would like it done.

3.  Divide and Conquer

Consider assigning different tasks to different family members (wash, fold, put away, etc.)  This eases the burden on everyone.

4.  To Each His Own

Some families believe each child should do his or her own wash.  This may not be as economical as grouping the wash together, but it teaches responsibility and prepares kids for college.

While most people enjoy freshly laundered clothes, most don't love doing laundry.  See if you can ease the burden by spreading the responsibility among family members.

Home & Office: De-cluttering After A Loss

Losing a loved one is extremely difficult.  Going through their items and trying to decide what to keep, donate or throw out can be a huge challenge.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

1.  Don't Rush - we don't make our best decisions when we are very emotional.

2.  Feel - it's okay to laugh, cry and feel overwhelmed.

3.  Small Steps - don't expect to go through someone's entire life of "things" in one sitting.

4.  Go Easy On Yourself - if it becomes too difficult, take a break or seek help from a friend, relative or professional.

The process of going through the belongings of a loved one can turn up wonderful treasures - letters, photos and memorabilia to be preserved and shared with future generations.  It can also help those who are grieving through the mourning process.
