May 2014
Spring!  At long last, we are free from snow in the Northeast and enjoying Spring.

Time to start organizing garages and other outdoor spaces!

Tip of the Month:

"If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them.

But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up.

Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."

Kids:  Storing Crafts

Kids love doing arts and crafts projects but storing all the bits and pieces can be tricky.

Select one area to store all craft items and try this:

1.  Sort - Put like items together:  tapes and adhesives, scissors and hole punchers, felt pieces, stickers, etc.

2.  Store - Select a box only slightly bigger than the grouping to be stored.  Use clear plastic bins so you can see what is inside.  Bins from The Container Store close well and are usually in stock.  Papers stay neater when in a paper sorter.

3.  Label - Each bin should be clearly labeled to identify it's contents.

Involving your child in the process of sorting helps them develop valuable organizing skills.  They are also more likely to maintain a system they were part of developing.

Time:  No Return Policy

Today's retail environment has become so competitive that most stores now provide a generous return policy.

This can waste a lot of time for the consumer.  Many customers purchase items because they are unsure at the time and figure they can simply return the item.

What often happens is that they forget to make the return within the allotted time or leave it in the bag, forgetting they even bought it.  Even if they remember to return the item, it consumes valuable time.

These unwanted purchases have a negative impact on many levels:  they cost money, they waste time, they create guilt for having wasted money, and then we convince ourselves that we should really try to use the item even though we don't want it.

When shopping, try telling yourself that every store has a "No Return Policy."  If you are unsure about an item, leave it behind.  This will save you money, time, and aggravation!
Home & Office: A Lot Is Not Enough

Clients are not looking for you to just give them more and more.  They are looking for you to exceed their expectations.

In an effort to market or sell ourselves, we can get caught up in promising more than we can deliver.  Failing to meet expectations results in a loss of trust that is difficult to rebuild.

Make it a habit to promise less and deliver more.  By exceeding expectations, we build trust and become the reliable choice for clients, friends and family.
From Our Readers:
Thanks to Dr. Michael Feldman for his thoughtful response to last month's article on Ambitious Goals.  You can view the article in our Archives.

He wrote:
To amplify your movement towards a goal, appreciate how far you have come from where you have started, rather then demeaning yourself for not reaching the goal yet. This way, if your goals change, you can still celebrate where you are now and all of your accomplishments to getting here!
