Happy New Year!

A great way to start the new year is by giving to others.  I recently joined GoodSt.org which helps you do good for just 25 cents a day.

Sincerely,
Sharon F. Danzger

Kids:  Teaching Kids to Organize

What can be done do to teach good organizing habits to young children?

Here are some suggestions:

1. Create a place for everything and put everything in its place. Using labels can help.

2. Have fewer clothes, toys, and books.  If they aren't going to use it, donate it to someone who will.

3. Schedule a semi-annual clean-out of their room and toys.  See #2.

4.  Create routines (make bed daily, put clothes in hamper, pack up backpack each night.)

If kids can create routines and are willing to let go of unused items, they are likely to grow into organized, uncluttered adults.
Time: Wisdom from Aunt Joyce

My Aunt Joyce is smart, beautiful, funny, and a devoted reader of my newsletter!  The following is her response to my January, 2013 newsletter:

As always, your newsletter had some great ideas - and I have a few to add:

Re: Resolutions
Don't make any. Things that are truly important, we generally DO at some point, and the other stuff, we might as well be honest about - we really don't want to do them! Give yourself permission to be imperfect!!!

Re: things you can't find
Your suggestion (clean up) may be great for you young ones, but for us old folks, we have learned there is a better solution: Replace it!

As we age, we discover which things in life are really worth spending our time on, and which are not. Spending an inordinate amount of time trying to find a lost or misplaced (or, most likely, buried!) item is a waste of precious minutes (or hours or worse!!!) Go out and get a replacement, if it's something you really need. When the original shows up, give it away or put it in another place where such objects might be logically stored, and use it as a back-up!

Thank you, Aunt Joyce, for your sage advice!

Home & Office: iPhone Battery Life

Since owning my iPhone 5, I have been told that closing all of my apps will save battery life.

This week, Maurice (a genius at the Garden State Plaza Apple Store) informed me that this was a myth.

He encouraged me to use all of the capabilities of my phone and keep my apps open.  This article from Apple confirms that the multi-tasking feature is not a drain on the battery.

Since I was having issues with the charge on my battery, I had Maurice test it only to discover that my battery needed to be replaced!
