Greetings!

Greetings from Deb!

 Summer is around the corner in the US.  Many of us are using our essential oils as part of our general first aid kit.  Lavender is great to put on a bites or stings.  I used it yesterday on my granddaughters mosquito bites.  It took the itch and redness away!

Peppermint is wonderful for those sore muscles that we rediscover from yard and garden workJ  I like using a peppermiint leaf drop or two on my sore area - it is cooling and brings me comfort.  There are many other ideas that you can use your essential oils for your summer activities and fun.

 Enjoy!

Deb

 Hello to everyone,

I thought I would share my story when I was a student in the program preparing for the CCA303 class "Essential Oils for Spiritual and Emotional Clearing"  in 2011- at the time the lovely Catherine Garro was Karen Bysouth the co-ordinator for Australian classes;

When I enrolled in this class I didn't quite feel confident that I knew enough for an open book exam, actually the thought of an exam made me want to crawl under a rock and just wait for the following class, whenever that was.  But during the exam I was pleasantly surprised with how much information I had retained. Hey Rosemary oil on the pages of my books to help me study really worked!  I still had quite a bit of homework to get through and needed to structure my time better. Even though I was not yet a practitioner that Certificate was somehow important to me and I had already invested my time and money.

My research project was halfway completed when I enrolled and I thought it was going to be difficult to collate and put together on paper and present a summary for the class.  It reminded me of my school years, ugh!  As I progressed with the research project I really enjoyed it and was very happy with it, even though my result with the oil was unsuccessful.  I can recall saying "maybe I should do another one, that was kind of fun! "

The 303 class turned out to be my favourite class!  I already loved the emotional and spiritual oils and more techniques to learn, awesome!  It was also a personal journey for me, as it was with all the students in the class.  It put it all into prospective for me and gave me more direction and clarity. I felt more confident knowing what is required to start a business in this industry and share my knowledge of essential oils and become an Aromatherapist.

I can't really explain why I was originally drawn to this course.  I just trusted my instincts and knew it would lead me to where I was meant to be.  Little did I know the big picture for me-which is still unfolding!

Linda Smith has so beautifully written this program and I feel very honoured to be able to share these classes with so many Aussie students.

We have more classes coming to Brisbane and Melbourne in October/November;

CCA 301/302            Brisbane:                   15th to 20th October

Stay warm, (those of us in Australia) and maybe spend some more time on your homework and preparing for the 303 class.  For those of you who have attended all the classes, then are you ready for your final exam?

Legally Protecting Yourself
Are You Operating as an Aromatherapist without a License?

Looking for a way to practice aromatherapy when you don't have a license to practice anything? Then contact Nancy Weber, one of our CCA graduates if you are looking for a means of practicing under the law without having a license.

 Nancy writes,

N. Weber "In the U.S. we may belong to as many religious organizations as we want. Lightwing Center, a 501C3 church has a very specific Ministerial Directive for all holistic practices. All holistic and/or organic practices including but not limited to Young Living Essential Oils, Raindrop Technique, Reiki, organic gardens, and more are part of the Lightwing Center's church directive. Our Ministerial Directive is given through a one day course along with a notarized contract making this a very healthy safety-net everywhere in the U.S.

What may not be approved of by government, local or federal, can be acceptable providing it is the Directives issued by a religious body. For example the Code of Federal Regulations states: Members of the Native American Church are exempt from federal criminal penalties for religious use of peyote.

Maternal Anxiety, Stress, and Lavender

Effati-Daryani F, Mohammad-Alizadeh-Charandabi S, Mirghafourvand M, Taghizadeh M, Mohammadi A. Effect of lavender cream with or without foot-bath on anxiety, stress and depression in pregnancy: a randomized placebo-controlled trial. J Caring Sci. 2015;4(1):63-73.

Lavender Field

Maternal anxiety, stress, and/or depression during pregnancy have a negative effect on the health of both mother and child. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia, Lamiaceae) flower essential oil has been shown to decrease anxiety, stress, and depression. Foot bathing has also been found to improve autonomic function, sleep quality, and relaxation. The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to compare the effect of lavender cream, foot bathing, and placebo treatment on anxiety, stress, and depression in pregnant women.

Patients were randomly assigned into 3 groups as follows: placebo, lavender cream (Barij Essence Pharmaceutical Company; Kashan, Iran), and lavender cream + foot bath. The lavender cream contained 1.25% lavender essential oil; the placebo was the base cream consisting of stearic acid, acetyl alcohol, Vaseline, and glycerin. Patients were instructed to rub 2 g of lavender or placebo cream on their legs for 10-20 minutes, 1.5 hours before bedtime for 8 weeks. The lavender + foot bath group was told to soak their feet in 40-42C tap water, at a depth of 5 cm above the ankle, for 30 minutes after applying the cream.

The authors conclude that lavender cream with or without foot bathing for 8 weeks significantly improved anxiety, stress, and depression in pregnant women. They recommend further studies to assess the effect of lavender on pregnant women with psychological disorders and women with postpartum depression. It is important to note that this study applies to the topical use of lavender essential oil. Future studies should consider the use of a natural carrier oil rather than a petroleum-based carrier.

Essential Oil Precautions

General Safety Guidelines and Information regarding essential oils.

Are you as familiar as you should be with the general safety guidelines and safety information regarding essential oil use? Not sure?  Click here to go to the NAHA site for the safety tips.

Caution: FDA Looking at Social Media

It has come to our attention that the FDA is sending warnings to Essential Oil companies and some of their distributors due to what they consider medical claims about the oils. Attached is the warning from NAHA for your information. Please read!

ISHA has always taught about NOT making medical claims. This language is clear in all student manuals involving essential oils. It would be wise to follow the recommendations given by NAHA.

Be aware that this is becoming a greater issue-be careful what you post, especially if you have a business page.
