TURKEY (ISTANBUL) - A car bomb detonated in Istanbul, Turkey, earlier on 7 June wounding five people. The explosion, which occurred as a police vehicle was passing, was reported on a road near Sarachane Arkeoloji Parki and Istanbul University in the Fatih district. The incident is the latest act of terrorism to impact on Istanbul in recent months. Cities and towns in Turkey have been increasingly targeted by Kurdish and Islamist militants leaving dozens of people dead and hundreds wounded. Leftists in Istanbul have also been implicated in several incidents. There has been no claim of responsibility for the recent attack. In light of the 7 June attack, an increased police presence is likely in the affected area in the coming hours. Roads are also likely to be closed as the bomb site is cleared. Clients in Istanbul should exercise a heightened level of personal security awareness, particularly in busy, crowded areas and in the vicinity of state personnel and facilities. Suspicious persons and packages should be reported to the authorities.
