TURKEY(ISTANBUL) - The Netherlands consulate-general in Istanbul, Turkey (located along Istiklal Avenue) was evacuated and temporarily closed on 23 March due to a terrorism threat. The exact nature of the threat is unknown and it is unclear when the diplomatic facilities will re-open. The closures follow a high-profile terrorist attack in Istanbul, also on Istiklal Avenue, where numerous diplomatic representations are located, on 19 March. The closure also takes place amid a general spate of attacks in the country since mid-2015. Numerous warnings of planned terrorist attacks have been issued by foreign governments. It should be noted that the German embassy and consulate in Ankara and Istanbul were also closed on 17 March due to a similar threat.

Clients in Istanbul should avoid the Dutch diplomatic facilities until they re-open. Persons requiring consular assistance should telephone consulate or contact the Dutch Embassy in Ankara. Persons operating in Istanbul should report all suspicious persons, packages or vehicles to the local authorities immediately.
