BELGIUM (MAALBEEK METRO STATION)  (Update) -Two explosions around 8 am at Brussels Zaventem Airport. Reports suggest that the first blast occurred in the departure hall and the other near the American Airlines check-in desk.  A suicide bomber was responsible for one of the blasts. Other explosive devices have been discovered at the airport by police. Passengers were taken to coaches from the airport terminal to a secured area.  23 people reported to be killed and 35 wounded. Brussels Zaventem Airport has cancelled all flights and the complex has been evacuated. No planes are landing at the airport, which is currently under lockdown. Planes are being diverted to Antwerp Airport and planes are circling over the city of Liege.

Trains to the airport have stopped. All Eurostar trains to Brussels have been cancelled. The Maalbeek metro station in Brussels was also hit by an explosion. The station is close to European Union institutions. All metro stations have been closed. Reports that Schuman and Kunst/Wet metro stations were also target of explosions. Belgium is on high alert and the terrorist threat level has been heightened to four (ORANGE).

The blasts come just days after Salah Abdeslam, believed to be one of the organizers of the November Paris terror attacks that killed 130 people, was arrested in the city.
