TURKEY - The US Embassy issued a warning on 11 March of a potential terrorism-related threat in Turkey's capital, Ankara. According to the embassy, areas of particular concern include Turkish government buildings as well as housing located in the Bahcelievler area. Further details regarding the exact timing or nature of the threats remain unknown. The warning underscores the elevated risk of terrorism in Turkey, including in major urban centres such as Ankara. The threat stems from numerous quarters, such as leftist militants, Islamist extremists and Kurdish separatists, including the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who are involved in an ongoing conflict in the south east. In light of the security warning, additional checkpoints and patrols are possible in the city over the near-term. Clients in Ankara are advised to closely monitor local developments. Any directives or warnings issued by the authorities regarding the implementation of any security measures should be adhered to. All suspicious people, packages or activities should be reported to the authorities immediately.
