INDONESIA(NORTH SUMATRA, WEST SUMATRA, ACEH) (Update) A tsunami warning that had been issued for Indonesia's West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh provinces earlier on 2 March has been lifted. The warning was originally issued in response to a 7.9 magnitude offshore earthquake that took place approximately 800km south west of Padang, in West Sumatra province on the island of Sumatra. There have been unconfirmed reports of casualties, although the exact number and location of these remain unknown at present.

Although there have been limited numbers of casualties thus far, aftershocks in the area remain possible over the near-term, which may result in some further infrastructure damage, and possibly cause additional casualties. Disruptions to transport and amenities such as water, electricity and telecommunications are also possible.

Persons in the affected area are advised to take the necessary precautions, including following the directives of the local authorities. Further aftershocks should be anticipated. Clients are further advised to monitor local media and emergency broadcast channels for updates and advisories.
