WESTERN EUROPE (UK) - (Update) On 15 November, authorities in France announced the identity and the arrest of suspected individuals said to be involved in the coordinated attacks that occurred in Paris, which left at least 129 dead and a further 352 wounded on 13/14 November. Omar Ismail Mostefai has been identified as one of the attackers and six people said to be his family members have been arrested in connection to the attacks. Security operations are said to be ongoing, while travel restrictions have since been relaxed in the country. Commercial and international travel services to and from France have reportedly resumed on normal services.

Associated heightened security measures have been implemented across Western Europe and the UK on 15 November. UK, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain are among France's neighboring countries to have implemented heightened security measures in response to the armed attacks. Increased security measures include the additional deployment of police officers at all points of entry, transportation hubs, popular tourist hotspots and at areas surrounding French embassies. Security checkpoints on roads and identification searches are also in place in regional capital cities, such as Rome, Brussels, Amsterdam and Madrid. In addition, there have been reports of ongoing security operations in the aforementioned countries; particularly in Belgium, where a security operation is said to be ongoing in the Molenbeek area of Brussels. Security personnel in the aforementioned countries remain on high alert as a number of solidarity and commemorative events are anticipated across the region in the coming days.

Security operations and associated increased security measures are expected to remain in place for the short- to medium-term, at least. Furthermore, additional disruptions to travel services across the region may increase as the most heavily impacted states increase border controls and security measures in response to the incident. As tensions remain elevated across the region, associated demonstrations and commemorative events are anticipated. While these events are expected to conclude without any major incident and be accompanied by an increased security presence, due to the emotive nature of events, the possibility of isolated skirmishes between participants and police cannot be discounted. Localized travel disruptions are expected at all associated demonstration-affected sites.

Clients in aforementioned countries and locales are advised to exercise heightened security awareness at this times, comply with all directives issued by the local authorities and limit travel in and around crowed public venues. All suspicious persons, packages and/or vehicles should be reported to the local authorities. Itineraries remain flexible to accommodate for possible travel disruptions.
