GERMANY (COUNTRYWIDE) - Significant disruptions to Lufthansa flight services have been reported in Germany, as unionized cabin crew proceeded with their eight-day strike action, on 6 November. Disruptions to domestic and regional flights services to and from airport facilities in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf began at 14:00 local time and are set to continue until 23:00 on 6 November. At least 290 flights have been cancelled so far. Unionized employees will again observe an extended work stoppage from 06:00 until 23:00 on 7 November. Further details regarding the specific time periods of work stoppages are unavailable; the action is set to be in place until 13 November. The strike had been called with regard to an ongoing wage dispute between the Independent Flight Attendants' Organisation (UFO) and airline operator, Deutsche Lufthansa AG. The initial impact of the action has been to services of principle airline, Lufthansa, at airports in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. However, the possibility of an escalation in strike action affecting other major airports and services of Deutsche Lufthansa AG subsidiaries (including Lufthansa CityLine, Germanwings, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, and Austrian Airlines), cannot be discounted. As negotiations between the union and airline operator are expected to resume; the strike action may be suspended on an ad hoc basis. Further flight disruptions are anticipated for the duration of the strike action. In addition, an increase in demand for other carriers is also likely during the affected period.

Clients scheduled to fly with Lufthansa during the affected period are advised to contact their travel provider or the airline directly to enquire about the status of their flight(s).

We are closely monitoring this situation and reaching out to traveler managers / travelers who may be affected by the strike.
