CALIFORNIA - Flash flooding has resulted in landslides and resultant road travel disruptions in parts of Los Angeles, located in the US state of California, on 15 October. The Antelope Valley, Leona Valley, Fairmont Dam, Elizabeth Lake, Lake Hughes, Quartz Hill and West Palmdale areas, located in the northern Los Angeles County have been affected. A thunderstorm warning has been issued in the affected areas and is expected to remain in effect until 18:45 local time. Road travel disruptions have been reported on parts of Interstate 5, north of Santa Clarita Valley and Lake Hughes Road. Debris, mud and stranded vehicles have rendered many parts of these motorways impassable. No casualties have been reported thus far; however, emergency services have been deployed in the affected areas. Downpour in recent days is believed to have triggered the landslides and is expected to persist in the near-term. This is likely to exacerbate the risk of further flooding and landslides in the affected areas. Further associated road and travel disruptions are possible, as are disruptions to amenities such as water, electricity and telecommunications in the affected locales.

Persons in the affected areas are advised to monitor local media for developments and adhere to any advisories issued by the local authorities. Caution is advised in low-lying areas and elevated regions due to the respective threats of flooding and landslides. Allowances should be made for increased travel times.
