UNITED STATES(NEW YORK) - Flight disruptions and travel delays are anticipated at the John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in the US from 22:00 local time on 22 July, due to scheduled strike action by unionised air sector staff. More than 1,000 baggage handlers, security guards and wheelchair attendants represented by the 32BJ SEIU union are expected to take part in the work stoppage. The intended duration of the industrial action has not been disclosed. Authorities at both airports are likely to implement contingency plans to minimise the effect of the upcoming work stoppage. Given that the strike action is being undertaken as part of an ongoing labour dispute, further such action is possible in the short- to medium-term. It should be noted that strikes of this nature may be extended or suspended on an ad hoc basis.

Clients scheduled to transit through the impacted airports from 22 July should anticipate delays and are advised to contact their airline or travel provider to enquire about the status of their flight(s).
