Run (or walk!) for Office
A event organized by the LGA Rising Professionals in Local Government network to promote civic engagement and encourage citizens to make a difference in their community by running for elected office.

Join Local Government Academy and the newly-established Rising Professionals in Local Government network at the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race on Sunday, September 28, 2014 and help raise awareness of the opportunities of local government and of Contemplating Governing, LGA's non-partisan program for anyone considering running for local elected office.

By signing up as a "Run (or walk!) for Office" fundraiser and participating in the Great Race as an individual runner or walker, or by putting together a team for the 10K, you will be helping to raise funds to ensure that as many citizens as possible can attend Contemplating Governing to learn about the opportunities, challenges, requirements and reasons to serve in local elected office.

To participate as a fundraiser for the "Run (or walk!) for Office":
  • Register for the Great Race at www.rungreatrace.com. Choose either the 5K run or walk, 10K run or 10K team competition. Individuals and teams will be responsible for all race entry fees. The race entry fee is $33 per person. There is an additional $25 team registration fee.

  • Forward your Active.com registration confirmation to Katie Stringent, stringent@twpusc.org, and Sarah Welch, swelch@localgovernmentacademy.org. You will receive an email with instructions on how to set up your online fundraising page.

  • Follow the directions on how to set up your page and begin training for the run/walk and fundraising! Individuals are asked to meet a $150 fundraising goal. Teams are asked to raise $100 per team member. Recruit your co-workers, friends and family members to "sponsor" you by making a donation through your online fundraising page, which can be found at tinyurl.com/lgarunforoffice.
