            • In the past three years, 3,400 individuals from 2,000 municipalities and organizations have attend LGA educational programs
            • Brochures with your company's name will be sent to more than 10,000 individuals annually, including local elected and appointed officials, municipal staff, and individuals from the private and corporate sectors
            • A link to your organization's website will be included on LGA's website and in our monthly Advocates Update newsletter, which is sent to more than 4,500 subscribers

15 Projects Available Through 2013 Municipal Intern Program
 
Thanks to support from Allegheny County, Butler County Council of Governments, Redevelopment Authority of the County of Washington and the DCED Governor's Center for Local Government Services, undergraduate and graduate students will have the opportunity to work on valuable projects in 15 communities this summer through Local Government Academy's Municipal Intern Program.

Students interested in an internship are encouraged to attend the Municipal Intern Fair on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the University of Pittsburgh's William Pitt Union. Students may pre-register or may walk in on Friday. Students who are unable to attend may send their resume to [email protected]. Students will work full-time this summer, earning between $9 and $11 per hour.

Available projects focus on a number of topics and students from a variety of majors are encouraged to apply. Full descriptions are available on the Academy's website; topics include:

NEOC Graduates Continue to Share Local Government Experiences Through Alumni Association Membership


Grads encouraged to attend Alumni Confab on March 20th!


Elected officials who completed LGA's Newly Elected Officials Course are encouraged to join their peers in becoming members of the NEOC Alumni Association and to actively engage in ongoing professional and social interaction with local government officials from throughout southwestern PA at the March 20th Alumni Confab.

Held twice each year, the Alumni Confab is an informal networking event that gives NEOC graduates the opportunity to:
  • Learn about and engage in a discussion on legislative and policy issues that have an impact on local governments
  • Receive information that they can share with their fellow elected officials and the broader community
  • Share their experiences with fellow graduates, including those who completed the 2011-2012 Newly Elected Officials Course
  • Continue the conversation about good government and network with elected officials on ways to cope with areas of mutual concern
The Confab is open to all graduates of the Newly Elected Officials Course. If you are not currently a member of the Alumni Association, you may join your peers by registering on-line today.

Annual outing benefits the Michael P. Lynch Scholarship Fund

2012 Golf OutingDon't miss this fun day of golf, benefiting the Academy's Michael P. Lynch Scholarship Fund, which helps to ensure that the Newly Elected Officials Course and other training programs are not out of reach for any local official. This hodgepodge scramble tournament has become a popular outing. It was just two short years ago that two participants earned holes-in-one on prize holes, winning Callaway golf clubs and round trip airfare for two. This could be the year that someone wins the $5,000 grand prize!

Additionally, you can have some fun with the "Beat the Pro" contest, featuring LDA long drive professional. Last year, Aaron placed 4th in the World Championship. Test his long drive skills on hole #18!


On-line registration will be open next week, but it's never to early to become a sponsor or to reserve a spot for your foursome. By sponsoring the "Promoting Excellence" Golf Outing, you will have the opportunity to highlight your company or organization in several ways:
