"Let It Go" is the infectious ballad from Disney's blockbuster
movie, Frozen. Kids became obsessed with this sing-along song, annoying parents and inspiring dozens of parodies.
"Let It Go" is also a wise practice as you pursue the goals you crave.
What can you let go and leave behind as you start a fresh new year? Here are three things to consider.
Let's start with forgiving yourself for mistakes made and goals not achieved this year. Write them down and add a line or two of your lessons learned so you can benefit from them. When you express compassion and choose not to be so critical, you set yourself up for success.
Second, consider releasing the physical, technical and emotional clutter that has gotten in the way of what really matters.
Finally, let go of control. When you stop trying to force a particular outcome, you open yourself up to the inevitable twists and turns that will often lead you to someplace even better than you can imagine. Stay aware of opportunities and options. Then trust that you will be guided.
If you're looking for a more tangible way to demonstrate all the things you're letting go, try this powerful ritual. Write down on scraps of paper whatever you wish to release, from fears to harmful habits, and then destroy them in a burning-bowl ceremony.
