October 21, 2014

This week, I'm speaking at the NEW Leadership Summit in Atlanta. The Network of Executive Women is an exceptional learning and leadership community with a focus on advancing women in the workplace. Its members include The Home Depot, The Coca-Cola Company and Walmart.

One of the programs I'll present is Work-Life Balance Wisdom: Seven Smart Strategies for Less Stress and More Success. These strategies include: create the space (by cleaning out the clutter), talk to yourself (through empowering affirmations) and be authentic (to ensure you're living your own life and not what you believe is expected from others).

Work-Life Balance Wisdom

Frustrated with the endless pursuit of "balance"? Try to seek fulfillment or satisfaction instead, since perfect balance is impossible.

Here are the five work-life balance best practices I'll also share at the conference.
  1. Make a list of all the areas that need your attention, from work and family to finances and fun. Rate each on a scale of 1 to 10 and then decide if you're satisfied with that rating or if you want to improve it. For example, your physical home may be at a 4 but you'd like to do some projects to get it to a 7. Again, perfection is not the objective.
  2. Prioritize.
  3. Determine your needs, identify resources and ask for help.
  4. Set boundaries and manage expectations--yours as well as others.
  5. Write down your goals. Without goals, there is no strong incentive to improve your balance. Fill in the blank: "If I had more time, energy and other resources, I would __________________________." Now you have something to work for!

What are your strategies for more balance in your life? Do you limit technology at home or block out sections of your workday to capitalize on times when you are most productive? Share your wisdom on my Facebook Page or reply back to me. I love hearing from you!

Have You Heard What They're Saying?
"As professionals, we all crave goals but then life and work tend to get in the way. I invited Tricia Molloy to speak at the Georgia Association of Paralegals Legal Summit we hosted after participating in several 'CRAVE Your Goals!' programs she presented at The Home Depot. Her soft-spoken, conversational approach to teaching us new concepts is so refreshing and effective. She encouraged us to stop and reflect on what's most important and how we could make more conscious choices. It was great to see all the 'light bulbs' going off at the event and know that these CRAVE steps will make a difference."
