Greetings!

"Believe you can and you're halfway there."

~Theodore Roosevelt~

When you were growing up and started a new school year, would your teacher ask you to write a report on what you did on your summer vacation? Mine often would and I remember how I loved to read that report to the class if I got the chance. Especially if I had a lot of fun that summer.

Me and Allyson
That's how I feel about this summer. You see, I spent six glorious weeks at my beach home in Gulf Shores, Ala., with my daughter, Allyson. She's now a sophomore at the University of Georgia and chose to work at Waterville, the local water park, from May through July. My husband, Rick, and I split the summer at the beach home since Allyson's twin brother, Connor, was working in Atlanta and needed company, too.

August 8th marked the 25th anniversary of my public relations firm so a mini-sabbatical seemed an ideal way to celebrate. As I prepared for this retreat, I knew I'd have a lot of time for reflection and set an intention to be open to guidance.

This summer was a series of releasing self-limiting beliefs. For example, my belief that I wasn't very athletic was tested every day as I played on Waterville's thrilling FlowRider, and kayaked and paddle boarded on beautiful Lake Shelby.

Who needs to swim with the dolphins, when my joyful golden retrievers, Honey and Lucy, joined me at the beach in the mornings?

I never considered myself artistic
until I got around to playing with paint on canvas with Allyson and created this nest painting, inspired by my neighbor Jennifer's magnificent photo of a robin's nest in her front yard. Now I have my own set of art supplies and will be painting with Rick.

Work-Life Balance Wisdom I also considered the age-old dilemma of improving work-life balance and began challenging the false beliefs around that, like being busy equals being productive. That led me to create a new program, Work-Life Balance Wisdom: Seven Smart Strategies for Less
Stress and More Success. It joins my CRAVE Your Goals! and DESIGN Your Ideal Life! employee development and conference keynote programs. If the employees at your organization are overworked and overwhelmed and could benefit from learning new coping strategies, let's talk about bringing this program to them.

Now it's your turn! Think about your own limiting beliefs. It might be that you're not good at technology, networking or sales. Write down one belief and ask yourself:
  • Where did it come from?
  • Is it true?
  • How would I benefit if I chose to challenge and release it?
Then, choose an empowering belief to replace it, affirm that it's true and take action. Share your experience on my Facebook page or reply back to me. I love hearing from you!
