Publicity Speed Dating

We are so excited to announce our first ever Publicity Speed Dating event. It will take place on October 8th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at the NYU Kimmel Center in New York City. Publicists from all of the major publishing houses will be in attendance as well as appearances by a number of authors. Booksellers will be able to meet one-on-one with publicists to talk about their store events, strengths, store focus and wish list. Booksellers will be invited to sit in on a pre-event conference call on Tuesday, September 23rd at 11 am for review and prep for this meeting. During the call we will review publicity kits so you can put your best foot forward on October 8th. Fee is $10 per person and includes lunch.

Last Wednesday, 70 NAIBA booksellers attended the Hachette Open House at their New York City offices on Park Ave.

The morning started with an Open Forum with Hachette sales, marketing and fulfillment, moderated by NAIBA President Margot Sage-EL, owner, watchung booksellers. Hachette staffers in this discussion were Evan Schnittman, Executive VP, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, Linda Paone, Executive Director of Fulfillment, and Mike Heuer, Executive Director, National Field Force. Booksellers discussed issues related to back-of-the-house operations, or as Paone renamed it, "got-your-back" department.

After finishing the panel, booksellers enjoyed a movable feast lunch with Hachette editors. The editors did an impressive job passionately handselling their upcoming Fall 2014/Winter 2015 titles.  It was followed up by an author panel moderated by Stanley Hadsell, Manager, Market Block Books.  The guest authors were Maureen Corrigan, So We Read On; Melissa de la Cruz, Vampires of Manhattan; Wendy Mass, Space Taxi Plane Rescue; Amanda Palmer, Art of Asking; and Christopher Scotton, The Secret Wisdom of the Earth

Michael Pietsch, CEO of Hachette, joined the group and thanked the independent booksellers for their support of Hachette.

Do You Know About These NAIBA Benefits?

Publishers Advocate Program - Publisher Advocate will give booksellers who don't see reps or speak with phone sales, access to marked-up Edelweiss catalogs. A rep's knowledge of the new season's list can be passed along to booksellers who currently don't see a rep or are assigned a telephone rep. Click here for more details.

Publishers Promotion Program
Booksellers:
Keeping track of publishers' on-going specials, especially for backlist, can be daunting. When you are ready to place an order on Monday morning, you can't find that darn email that lists the promotion.
NAIBA is going to compile that information in an excel spreadsheet and email it to buyers on Monday mornings. To get ready for the program, we will need the names and emails of your book buyers so they can be on our limited distribution list. So email NAIBA the names and emails of the people responsible for your buying and ordering and we will endeavor to make their lives a little easier.

Publishers:
This new program was created by NAIBA as a way to get your special deals in front of the booksellers at the time they are placing orders. The response from the booksellers is pure excitement. They are so happy that NAIBA is compiling this information in one place so they can scan it before they place their weekly reorders.
All you need to do is assign someone to receive a reminder email from NAIBA every Wednesday, and to reply with any current specials by Fridays. There is a link to a Google Form that they will fill out. NAIBA will send a spreadsheet to book buyers on Monday mornings. Pretty simple, and so useful.
