Joe Drabyak Handseller of the Year Award
joe

Joe Drabyak, a beloved NAIBA President and bookseller at Chester County Book & Music Company was a master handseller. He took immense pleasure in reading a good story and sharing it with others in humorous and creative ways. To honor his passion and memory, and remind ourselves that our mission as booksellers is to get each book into the right hands, NAIBA's created the Joe Drabyak Handseller of the Year Award.

Recognize the handseller in your store (Reps: nominate from your territory) by nominating them for the 2014 Drabyak Handseller of the Year.

Email NAIBA with their name and the reason they are so special to you and your customers.  Deadline: June 30th.

Helmuth Sales Rep of the Year Award

Each year NAIBA members recognize an exceptional salesperson who serves our region. The William Helmuth Award goes to the person that best embodies the dedication, book knowledge and heart shown by the late William Helmuth of BookTravelers fame.  Cast your ballot via email. Tell us who you want to nominate, and why. Be sure to include your contact information. Deadline is July 9th.

Hachette Open HouseWednesday, August 6, 2014
New York City
10:00am - 4:00pm, followed by a tour, reception and dinner for those who can stay

We have been given a rare opportunity to spend a day in the Hachette NYC offices to talk business with their executives, discuss books with their editors, and socialize with their authors.

The day will begin with an Open Forum with sales & fulfillment, a chance to ask questions and discuss backroom issues. We will have a movable feast lunch with editors and hear about the upcoming books from the Fall 2014/Winter 2015 seasons and Spring/Summer 2015 lists.

Five Hachette authors will participate in an author panel in the afternoon, followed by a tour of the offices and a meet-and-greet reception with HBG authors and staff.

For those who can stay for the evening, Hachette will host a fabulous author dinner.

RSVP immediately to NAIBA to reserve your seat at this rare opportunity to talk with one of our most important publishing partners.

Roommate Request: If you are planning on staying over Wednesday night after the Hachette dinner, a female bookseller is looking for a female roommate to split the cost of a hotel room. Contact:

Matching Grants:New From BINC

The Binc Foundation knows that the staff of a bookstore often feels much like a family. Having a colleague struggle with a financial hardship is made more difficult when there seems to be no way to help. The Binc Foundation understands this, and is introducing a new Matching Grant Pilot Program. Now there is a way for booksellers to harness the goodwill of the book people in their community to assist a local bookstore employee in need. Your store can raise funds (by any method they choose) and the Foundation will match those donations dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $2,000. Read more>

We have some more great programming to share with you. Keep an eye out for announcements on our Publicity Speed Dating (in October), the Fall Discovery Conference (in September), and Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

Sincerely,
